The Taj In corfe Mullen has been my family and I's favourite for years! we have lived down the road from the Taj for 16 years and so it has always been our first choice. However last night 27/08/14 7:00pm this sadly all changed. My mother stuck to her usual and I branched out to the 'chef's special prawn tapeli'. This dish arrived and what looked liked chicken turned out to be butterflied King prawns with the shell on, no problem however the waiter didn't give me a plate for shells and it wasn't specified on the menu this is how they arrive. I would like to mention now I'm not a fussy eater and this is also my first review but I felt I should warn fellow diners of this! The Intestinal Tract of the King prawn (grit, sand and faeces) vein had not been removed and after having this dish sent back for a replacement a suspiciously similar prawn arrived back to the table after being diced up. The vein was STILL present and from further cooking it had become tough, chewy and frankly inedible. Our service from the waiter went from a moderate 7 to a 0 as they sheepishly walked past the table hoping we hadn't noticed. After the bill had arrived my mother and I brought this to the (new) waiters attention after being interrupted, undermined (this is how they cook it in indian cuisine) we just weren't getting through to them so headed for the bar. It was then a bloke who heard the whole all deal stepped up and announced he was the manager (why didn't he say something sooner?). after much debate of (your meal was fine) and him debuting our idea he may need to change his supplier it was only till a fellow customer (male) butted in and said 'I never buy my king prawns prepared as the state prepared and they never ever take out the veins, at the end of the day you don't really want to be eating a poo sack do you?!' that the manager took payment (£20.46) minusing the curry we left. We walked home teary eyed, evening ruined and empty...
Read moreWe had a family birthday celebration here. We booked a table in advance even though it wasn't too busy [a Thursday at the end of November] and requested a table with plenty of space, as last time we visited here, we felt a bit squished in. The first table we were given didn't reflect our request and we asked whether we could be moved which happened. The waiter couldn't have been more helpful and we all ordered our personal favourites from Taj, mine being Royal Style Biryani. The portion sizes are generous and all the dishes were delicious. We had plenty to take home too. My reason for knocking one star off for 'atmosphere' is because I found the place rather cold. There seemed to be no heating on and every time the door opened, a cold gale blew in. I had to borrow my son's jacket to put on throughout the whole evening. Additionally, there was no ambient music in the background which may have helped the overall atmosphere. I love this restaurant but would suggest getting the heating on in the winter months and creating a more...

Requested vegetarian options by phone before arriving and told this wouldn't be a problem. Was also told no problem when I arrived.
However, I then found loads of small bits of chicken in curry. Wasn't offered any form of discount or money back even though i couldn't eat the curry so left never to return! Excuse by waiter was they were busy and took out large bits! I have reported to trading standards.
Bizarre response by restaurant was issue wasnt raised on the night, although I didn't state which night and they haven't even asked. Their response indicates a total lack of respect for their customers and I would go as far as to say resentment towards their customers. No real interest in investigating or resolving.
Its pot luck what's in your food if you decide...
