I've driven past the Amber wood most days for years. Today we decided to stop and eat, and so glad we did.

The decor was very fresh and inviting. Welcomed with a hello by the barman as soon as we step through the door.

Intially intended to have a Sunday roast but upon seeing the menu I went for the crispy pork belly starter and cod loin & scallops main. My partner went more traditional prawn cocktail and steak (no mushrooms - allergic). I was subsequently informed that they were out of cod loin so I went for seafood spaghetti.

My starter was wonderful. If they added a couple of roast spuds and a bit of veg it would have as a main meal. Prawn cocktail also got a thumbs up from the other half.

After starters, two enormous main meals arrived, unfortunately my partners had mushrooms but they immediately admitted their mistake and recooked her meal. My seafood spaghetti was out of this world. So glad they were out of the cod. A huge portion but the majority of the bowl was full of seafood and not spaghetti. Delicious.

Wish I'd dropped in before but will make more reqular stops to make sure this was...

What an unforgettable lunch experience with my mom! We kicked things off with a mouthwatering pork belly—perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, each bite bursting with flavor. Paired with a luscious sauce that took it to the next level, it was an absolute showstopper.

Next, we dove into the lamb, which was cooked to absolute perfection. The rich, tender meat melted in our mouths, and the seasoning was spot on—bold and comforting without overpowering the natural flavors.

And then… the dessert. Oh, the cinnamon crumble! A sweet, spiced masterpiece that had us savoring every bite. The delicate balance of crunchy and soft textures, with a hint of cinnamon warmth, was the perfect finale to our meal.

But the true star of the show was the specialty of the house—something so unique and delicious it defies description. It was like a little treasure on the plate, something you won’t find anywhere else.

If you want an extraordinary meal with flavors that leave you craving more, this lunch was an absolute win! A memorable treat shared with my mom—what...

I was being treated, yesterday. August 27th. Both very dissapointed. The food was disgraceful, the service not much better.! Both of us fancied Butternut Squash/ Asparagus pasta. We waited half an hour for this to appear and the place was not busy.! Not much evidence of either, the Pasta parcels were floating in a bowl of slush, certainly not a sauce, no evidence of either veg , no colour, no garnish and very little flavour. We complained to the Waiter who is supposed to have reported to the Chef. Likewise the dessert, we ordered Eaton Mess, next to no Meringue evident , fruit, yes, but artificial cream and served with a soggy wafer and Ice Cream. We complained again, no reduction or replacement offered ! as an elderly retired female Chef, which I feel they could do with some lessons. Since that appalling , expensive meal, I have had a very upset Stomach which has just compounded our disgust. We will certainly never eat or...

We came down for a Sunday dinner with the whole family, 4 adults, 1 child, 1 infant, and the dog. The food was amazing, good portion sizes, lovingly prepared, and tasted great. They were happy for the dog to sit with us in the bar area. Everyone enjoyed their meals. And to top it off they held a meat raffle in aid of macmillan, in which we won a lamb joint which was turned into a roast the next day! Staff are very friendly, locals welcoming, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended if over in the area. Surprisingly it wasn't that busy for a Sunday lunch period (although we were booked in for 2:45pm) Definitely worth the 5 stars.
