Lucky enough to be the 1st booking in the newly renovated Daisy Cottage @ The Baker Arms, an extremely welcoming country pub with great food. The kitchen in Daisy Cottage had everything you could need on a short break, although with the pub on the doorstep serving a great homemade/local menu we decided to have dinner there and used it only for a quick breakfast in the morning. The cottage has one bedroom with a good sized lounge dinner with a sofabed (very comfortable). Soft furnishings and decor is ideal for this country retreat. We will certainly be back! Thank you to the new owners who worked tirelessly to make our stay so relaxed and enjoyable. Good operators

Having just walked Hambledon Hill and Hod Hill with a different pub lunch planned, where we couldn't get in, with the help of Google Maps and the car we found The Bakers Arms. Here the welcome, from staff and a chap comfortably settled at the bar, was friendly and the wood-burner was welcome warmth after the cold outside. We had a delicious lunch, in my case halloumi bun with baba ganoush and chips and my daughter enjoyed scotch egg and millionaire chips (worth the journey just for those). It's a great old world village pub, well worth a visit, on foot or in the car.

The Bakers Arms in Child Okeford is a wonderful little village pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming to its visitors. The quality of the food is fantastic and the pub offers excellent booth seating by a cozy fire. When you drop in we highly recommend trying the burgers, they are delicious. The Bakers Arms offer great support to the local community, this was evident by the Phesantfest which was a fantastic and well supported community day. We love that the pub is a dog friendly pub also!

If you are family with mobile children in search of a laidback, welcoming establishment, avoid at all costs.

I try to avoid leaving negative reviews, as understand how much it can affect someone's livelihood, often when negative experiences are just a one off. However I feel compelled to leave one about our extremely upsetting visit to the Baker Arms.

We had arranged to meet friends for an evening meal. They had travelled all the way from Yorkshire, us from Wiltshire, and we hadn't seen them in a while. On first impressions the pub is lovely- nice gardens and a traditional interior, although the menu was minimal (three mains, none child-friendly...which should have been a sign of things to come).

Our group consisted four adults (incl one heavily pregnant female) and four children ranging from 1-6yo.

In essence, the landlord (whether his name is in fact 'Dan' as he told us is debatable) appears extremely highly strung and not cut out to be a landlord.

Firstly came the warning that a 'newly imposed rule' meant children weren't allowed in the beer garden unless seated. Anyone will tell you forcing 4 year old boys to sit still especially after a 5 hour drive from Yorkshire is impossible. Noone else was in the beer garden and they were just running around a little playing with their trucks. I will admit that they had shot one of their toys into a flower bed, which I very quickly jumped up the retrieve. They were by no means raucous or destructive.

Secondly, came an extremely aggressive approach to me (pregnant female) from said landlord dictating that as the children weren't seated we needed to move to benches at the front of the pub ie.on the road (not safe for children at all). At this point we decided we would leave as clearly we weren't welcome.

The male adults left to get the vehicles. On trying to leave, they were again accosted by the landlord who tried- in vain- to justify his actions. No rude words were exchanged, but clearly the landlord felt wronged by their response as he then approached the women and children who were waiting in the garden. Incessantly using the word 'diabolical', he ordered us out of the pub garden, demanding that all of us- including four children and heavily pregnant woman- needed to wait on the dangerous road for the cars. The children were clearly aware of this man's aggressive behaviour and were worried.

To say this behaviour is unreasonable is an understatement. I for one, felt extremely upset and stressed from this experience. I've never encountered anything like it and it's kept me up overnight feeling actually quite anxious.

So to you Mr Landlord, feel free to respond, I've written as factually as possible. I understand you must have put a lot into the gardens, they are pretty, but to behave in this manner to a happy group doing absolutely nothing wrong was just unbelievable. I hope you can see sense, understand what owning a pub is all about, and learn some decent morals...

The Baker Arms is everything you could want from a great local pub and more. Sam and Tom, the landlords, are incredibly welcoming and accommodating – they truly go above and beyond to make everyone feel at home. Their passion and hard work shine through in every detail.

The atmosphere is warm and lively, with friendly locals who are always up for a good bit of banter. It’s the kind of place where you feel like part of the community from the moment you walk in.

The food is absolutely top-notch – freshly prepared, generous portions, and packed with flavour. The Baker’s Burger is a standout and worth the visit alone!

There’s a cosy outside seating area at the front, perfect for watching the world go by, and a beautiful, well-kept garden out back that’s clearly had a lot of love and care put into it.

Whether you're popping in for a drink, a meal, or a relaxed afternoon in the garden, The Baker Arms delivers every time. Highly...
