We visited THE BAY HORSE with my family for Sunday lunch. The staff were very friendly and my partner said the beer was good. Unfortunately that is where the positives end. My daughter is non dairy and told the waitress when she ordered her lunch . When her meal came it included Yorkshire pudding and very sloppy mash she asked the waitress to double check that it was all non dairy, when it came back it had the mash and Yorkshire removed. This is very poor, food allergy’s can be lethal and anywhere serving food should be very allergy aware. You should never have to ask twice !. I have to add they apologised and didn’t charge for her meal but it’s serious error that shouldn’t happen. My partner ordered turkey but he said it tasted more like thin cut pork. The vegetables were all over cooked apart from the very very well done roast potatoes. . The only deserts on offer were two pieces of cheesecake or ice cream as everything else on the menu had sold out, not sure when we appeared to be the first table in that day. . All in all a very poor over priced Sunday lunch. The place needs a real shake up and a good clean!. The pub itself is very quirky and full of character and has so much potential it’s a real shame the rest...
Read moreWhat a find, passing through Burythorpe we stopped off for lunch at The Bay Horse. A warm welcome awaited us from the young lady behind the bar, took us a few moments to adjust to the dim gas and candle lighting, this coupled with the 3 open fires added to the fantastic ambience of the place, turning to the bar I was mesmerised by the row of 8 real ale pumps, didn’t expect this in a little village pub, chose the Ossett Blonde which was poored perfectly (nice tight creamy head). The menu was on chalkboards which I love, no littering of sticky menus on the table and always gives the impression of freshness. We ordered starters of home made Mediterranean style vegetable soup and for main we chose sizzling lamb chops with layered salami and the steak & ale pie with short crust pastry (no ponsy flakey). Portions were very generous and very reasonably priced, we enjoyed the food very much. Would love to return for a weekend next time with friends that would love this kind of hostelry and sample more of the real ale on offer. Highly recommend...
Read moreWe found this rather lovely pub while on holiday, when looking for somewhere that served a traditional Sunday lunch. It is about as quintessential an English country pub as you could hope for, with gorgeous traditional decor. The server was professional and friendly, and landlady Abigail was a delight. They use paper straws, so a tick for sustainability! For our meals we ordered roast pork, roast lamb, the pie, and the children's roast. We were very excited by the portion size, I genuinely think I could have been alright with the kid's portion but did my best to tackle the adult one along with some of the vegetable accompaniments. It was excellent value for money. The crackling with the pork, by the way, is phenomenal. My mother, admitting herself that she was being picky, would have liked a green veg accompaniment and crispier roast potatoes, but we all left too full for dessert (sadly) and extremely satisfied. I'd go back next time we are in this part of the world, and thoroughly...
