Not impressed at all. Such a shame the decline of service as well as the quality of the food. My mum had a stroke and my family came from Brighton to join us for our first meal out since she was out of hospital 3 weeks ago, we thought we would celebrate my sons girlfriends treat to us.
I was served a totally different dish to what was on the menu that I ordered, I didn't want to make a fuss as my mum would get stressed so I humbly ate some & gave the rest to my son & girlfriend. I was fasting 4 days & wanted to break my fast with protein not rice a carb so I wasn't at all happy although didn't want to ruin the meal for everyone else. It was bland & tasteless wrapped in a sauce that didn't do it justice. I checked with the other family members & we agreed to say something as it was false advertising.
I was offered a free dessert. I ordered a tea that never arrived and overall was not impressed by the lack of how important it is to serve what what is described on the menu. That could have been fatal to someone with a rice allergy & the pub libel. It was poorly managed the situation as it felt like it wasn't really a problem, that night I had stomach pains with nausea as I never eat rice.
I needed to write this to express just how important it is to serve on a menu what it actually is!
No - one wants to ruin people's lively hoods but the Bear Cross needs to step up, felt a waste of an...
Read moreA Fantastic, warm welcoming restaurant. After driving around trying to find somewhere to since 4pm, everywhere being full!. It was our 11th anniversary, in the end we decided to visit the bear cross. All I can say to the least is we wish we thought of here first! It is one or probably the best restaurant we’ve eaten at for a few years. All the staff are on great form, highly diligent towards the customer. We also had our 15 month old daughter with us and each staff member made time to acknowledge her which was a really nice gesture. To also add so did some of the customers too. The food was fantastic, each course was plentiful and not too much neither too little...perfect amount. For main I had pork loin x2, diane sauce served with mixed vegetable sides. It was a perfect sauce to dish ratio. My partner had a very light, tender battered cod and chips with a side of mushy peas, again it was brilliant. Dessert was profiteroles with vanilla ice cream side and blackberry and apple crumble with custard and ice cream, again these were a fantastic, well presented course. Our daughter shared ours, and ate a bit of each. She cleared the lot! I can definitely Recommend the place to anyone looking for a smashing place to eat. So impressed to say the least, We are actually coming here again tomorrow as we have family visiting. Thankyou team bear for a...
Read moreAvoid this place Most dishes on the menu come in two sizes: small and regular. I ordered the regular cod, which turned out to be two tiny pieces of fish — and honestly, I wouldn’t bet it was actually cod. The “chunky” chips were raw in the middle. The fish was smaller then my mom "kids portion" chicken... My partner ordered the steak pie — it was completely inedible. The meat tasted like cardboard, with zero seasoning. No salt, no pepper. And the “pie” was just some watery gravy with a pastry lid on top — not a pie at all. The vegetables were tasteless and overcooked, like they had been boiled in the morning and left in water until lunch. My partner didn’t touch his meal and, when asked if everything was okay, said he wouldn’t pay for it. The young waitress didn’t even react. She simply said there was no one around who could remove it from the bill because the manager was “very busy” on the phone and wouldn’t come out. Only when we said we would leave and not pay at all did the manager magically appear. He removed the pie from the bill, dropped the card machine on the table, and walked away. No apology, no explanation — nothing. Absolutely not worth your time or money. There are far better places to eat...
