What a superb atmosphere! You find a pub which serves good beer, then another with great service and then another with brill’ food. But when you come across one with all of that, and other additional weird quirks, friendly locals and a complete lack of football playing on large screens you get a pretty fantastic atmosphere - and The Bear Inn has this in spades.

Food was really good! I had the steak which was massive and really well cooked. My wife had the venison burger which, again, was well cooked. The drinks selection was also really good. Their own brews being thoroughly enjoyable! The staff were very polite and happy to help.

The most wonderful and authentic place in Wiveliscombe. A bustling atmosphere, and absolutely brilliant service, with delicious food to top it off. Would highly recommend for anyone coming into the area.

Everything a pub should be!

Nice small-town pub in the local center of Wiveliscombe.

Well trained locals give you a funny look before politely saying "hello".

Cosy bar area with open fire and a place to throw arrows.

Obviously a coaching-inn back in the day, the toilets are located outside, somewhere near the skittle-alley and opposite the separate pool room.

The massive rear courtyard is partially covered, with its own wood burners, or extra electric heaters if you can afford a quid or two. The pub quiz was being held here when I visited, a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

Well cooked pub staples on the menu, a few interesting choices chalked up on the specials board.

It seemed like the friendly and attentive staff are trying to something for everyone, and unusually it's working out well!

Definitely worth a visit,...

Lunch for 3 at this cosy, homely and welcoming small town Inn. Stepped inside on a cold, grey January Monday. Met with a blazing log fire and a warm, courteous welcome. Pleasant vibe and buzz, locals and visitors; dogs welcome. Good menu and 'specials'. We all selected a different menu option. All delicious and home made, especially 'proper' ham and pie of the day with real short crust pastry rather than freezer special puff/flaky nonsense. Service, value and food all great. Very welcome when many Covid complaining eateries choose not to open if there's a 'y' in the day; not to serve food outside the tiny window when chef is apparently available; and not to light their advertised real fires. The Bear Inn is highly recommended. It offers what it...

We have visited the Bear a few times but on this occasion we were not happy .As it was a Sunday, we went in at 12 to be told it was fully booked, and we could have a table at 2.30, so we went back just before, but it was total disorganisation and lacking staff. We were at first given the wrong menus and then we waited and waited for our order to be taken this was after going to the bar to place a order and being told they would come and take it.After a long while a very good 20mins our order was finally taken and yes the food was good when it arrived but you shouldn't have to wait that long just to order food and you should be able to order food...
