The Bell Inn is a fantastic pub to stop by after or before a visit to Castle Combe. I can't even begin to express how grateful we were to this pub. We were stuck in traffic longer than we expected that day and needed a place to eat. We were exhausted, annoyed and hungry. They took us in even though we had no dinner reservations for a Friday evening. The front Lady was so kind, mindful and patient. The table we sat at was perfect, in a quiet area of the pub but we could still see the hustle and bustle.
Now, the food was a whole experience in itself. We ordered the Chicken Paris and the Steak and Ale Pie. First of all, it was delicious! One plate is a lot of food (no complaints here) as it comes with either salad or vegetables and you can choose one out of 3 options of potato side dishes. Starting with the Pie: I have never seen a puff pastry so high, flaky and tasty in my whole life. Even after a couple of bites, the pastry was standing high up. The steak was prepared with a bitter ale which complemented the buttery taste of the pastry. An absolute pleasure to eat. The chicken had this sauce that we had never tasted in our lives. We drenched every potato and vegetable in this sauce because it was an experience. There was not a single drop left of the sauce after we ate. The bacon was crunchy and the chicken was moist. The potatoes were super tasty and vegetables were steamed to perfection: not mushy while holding some crunchiness. When we paid our bill, the front lady was once again very welcoming and we can't thank the servers, cooks and her enough for their hospitality and outstanding service to us: a Californian couple very far from home.
We would not drive back to see Castle Combe, but we would take a 10 hour flight and a drive to the Cotswolds just to...
Read moreMust visit place if you come nearby. All member of staffs are friendly. Foods was amazing. 🥳 Do not go Castle Combe village pubs. The bell Inn is just drive 5min away. Worth to spend this 5mins. Trust me. Actually we tried to find the seat from two pubs in the village. Sadly, one of the place in the village didn't have a seat. Didn’t welcoming us(9of us including 5kids😅 I understand that the restaurant does not welcome families with young children.) and the other place came out because it was too unfriendly. Thank you god! therefore I accidentally found The Bell Inn. When I found seat in the bell inn then I checked that first two pubs reviews. Then I realised that was lucky for me to left😂 For your information, No mibile phone signal reception in the Castle Comb Village. So hard to get nearby restaurants information.

Read moreSupper with a friend who had previously visited The Bell . Checked out their menu beforehand and it looked promising. I am a veggie and friend is a carne and there was plenty of choice for us both so ✔ - it looked encouraging! Lovely welcome when arrived and shown our table - definitely need to book as the pub was busy with diners. Drink orders taken and food order taken when the drinks were bought to our table. As a veggie there were six menu choices for me- 3 veggie and 3 vegan - this is unheard of I my world of eating out in pubs! Advised of a wait for food but not long at all before our spicy garlic bread arrived- we shared a portion of this lovely, cheesy, oozy garlic bread as it was ample. My friend had a steak and I the veggie Wellington, both good portion sizes and I had a choice of 3 potato options and veg or salad option - i went for the dauphinoise potato and veg - a very generous portion of 4 types of veg and wonderfully tasty potatoes. We viewed the deserts from afar but they were very tempting! Will try them next time as we will definitely be returning. Fab,...
