Our first visit meeting friends for lunch. A lovely character country pub. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, I had the steak mushroom and ale pie served with veg and saute potatoes, one of the best I have had. My wife had the vegetarian tart with salad and saute potatoes, again thoroughly enjoyed. The bonus was Otter ale available. It was a bitterly cold day and the log fires did struggle to keep the pub warm.

What a welcome, the atmosphere was lovely and the locals made you feel at home. Staff were attentive and friendly, lots of smiles and laughter with us. We were a family of eight with 3 dogs and ate on a Saturday night. The food was exceptional and so very tasty. Chef came out and we thanked him. Very clean and the decor was beautiful. Highly recommend a visit as you won’t be disappointed.

I was keen to add positive notes to here but regardless how hard I looked I could not find any. Rule of thumb: if the glasses stick to the table - leave. Phrases such as "sorry for the delay" ricochet across the building similar to end of a bad day at Dodge City. Quantity over quality appeared to be the theme. Meat and chips over cooked. Veg soggy.Did not go back sadly.

I had a great evening in the Bird in the Hand last night. My friend and I had booked a table, which is definitely advised - it was so busy!!

Busy with locals drinking, which was great to see in these post-covid times, and also diners. They have perspex screens suspended in front of the bar, and hand sanitisers. Otherwise it all feels remarkably normal, which was lovely.

There was a lively and friendly atmosphere and the owner chatted to us twice, even clearing our plates. The rest of the staff were young, efficient and friendly, and perhaps most importantly, the food was GREAT. We had fish and veggie dishes but there were plenty of steaks on the menu too. It was all served quickly, was really tasty and perfectly seasoned. Got a huge thumbs up.

It was a busy night, and we were really impressed by how well everything...

After 15 years of frequenting the Bird in Hand, I don’t think we will be returning for food. A real shame as it’s our local, and have had some lovely meals in the past. Our meal last night was no where near as good as it used to be, the food was over cooked steak ordered rare came well, floppy carrots, burnt onions in the sauce, even the breaded sea food platter starter was over done. Service was slow and poor, no one asked how our food was until we were ‘finished’. Terrible for the price of the food - we don’t mind paying for good food but £80 for 2 poor meals with poor service doesn’t seem right to me.. ?new chef or management just don’t care any longer? 2...

So disappointed with this Pub/Restuarant. Food was awful. Venison steak was tasteless. Veg was tasteless. Sautéed potatoes were Sautéed chips. And again tasteless. Service virtually non existent . No menu . Just a black board. Customers queing up to take pics on there phones of menu on the wall.Glad I wasn't seated at either of the two tables along side this. Dated decor . Cutlery and glassware old and dirty. Cutlery and table mat stuck to the table. Needs a full refurbishment. Maybe even Mr Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares. I was in a group of four and...
