I ordered a tiny steak as a starter. It was pink on the outside. I’ve never had a steak as a starter before . If it was the mains, I would have returned it but I thought it’s some special kind of steak because it’s pink on the outside, it must be some special kind of steak . That night I had a stomach ache caused by food poisoning from the salmonella inside the steak and next morning I had a bladder infection, kept needing to go to the toilet I sent an e-mail to the restaurant and they asked me for any evidence of bills that I paid for my health condition. I sent them an invoice dated that morning for £30 to Amazon for natural antibiotics. A year and a half has passed, it was long enough for me to forget the experience and put it behind me. I decided to forgive them and return to the restaurant. They cancelled my reservation and I’ve been banned from the restaurant for being poisoned by them.

I sent them the evidence that it was a genuine complaint ‘cause I had a bill of £30 for antibiotics dated the day after my visit . The owners of this restaurant are stark raving bonkers, banning a customer for being poisoned! I since have realized that pink on the outside of a steak is virtually guaranteed to have Salmonella which is what this one had . I say you should stay away from such a restaurant. I forgave them for the bad experience and this is how I get treated for my kindness. I didn't even put in a review at the time. Forget that I’m a customer but I’m actually a human being and to treat human beings like this is insanity, nothing less than that. It is a despicable way to treat human beings . And I was a faithful customer of some years standing. Stay well away from this crazy restaurant and it's crazy owners. Be warned, if you get sick in their restaurant, they will treat you just as they treated...

We visited on the last evening of our holiday. A perfect end to a great few days on this beautiful Isle. 4 of us dined, and every single morsel of the 3 courses each of us had was utterly fabulous. Across the menu between us we had monk fish scampi - a daily special that I enjoyed so much I could have eaten a tonne of it - add in the lobster mayo and you’ve got an absolute sensation. We also tried the bao buns which were soft, fluffy and spicy with the salt and pepper chicken. In to the mains, there was a mixed grill - expertly cooked, the produce used was clearly top grade. A beef and red wine pie on special that was melt in the mouth. A spicy, coconutty Katsu curry, as authentic as then come, and mine. An absolute hunk of what can only be described as perfection in brisket. 12 hour, slow roasted BBQ beef brisket, with lime butter corn on the cob and creamy home made slaw. Puddings were made with TLC as the describe, apple, pear and ginger crumble with custard, a warm gooey chocolate cake with chocolate sauce and creamy vanilla ice cream and a white chocolate and raspberry crème brûlée with a crumbly homemade shortbread biscuit that complemented it perfectly. I cannot recommend a visit to this restaurant more highly, some of the most delicious food I’ve had in a very long time. Comforting, inventive, very generous portions and impeccable flavour. All accompanied by friendly, efficient service. Total bill was £192 (we added service on top) for 4 people, 3 courses each, some soft drinks and 5 pints. An all round superstar that should be on anyone’s visit list. Worth the trip on the ferry alone, we will...

I wanted to e-mail or message the restaurant privately with feedback but no option , so I am forced to leave this public review. We had booked a table to have a dinner with friends that travelled 3 hours across mainland plus ferry to visit and we wanted to show them the place as we always liked the food at Pointers . I have booked far in advance, left my phone number and asked for a specific table and it was booked . I found the waitress when booked a bit unhappy if not unfriendly. Zero smile , as she was doing us a favour . Maybe tired ... I don’t know . When we arrived on the day we have been directed to the dark part of the pub . I have then explained we had been promised another table . Youngster at the bar was dry and said that it was impossible as it was booked already by someone else . This made me feel very uncomfortable. The table was eventually given to us but nice atmosphere was spoiled . Our visitors paid the bill and we haven’t been aware of the extreme sum that was calculated and it would go amiss if our friend’s partner had not noticed that the bill was suspiciously high. They had phoned the pub and rectified this : the balance from previous guests on that table had not been cleared . However I am upset that- despite the error being noticed by the staff after we had left , I was not phoned to inform and refund ! Food good. Owner was nice and tried her best . Atmosphere spoiled anyway. Unpleasant experience. We might visit again , I don’t know...probably...

Heading out to the Theatre, thought we would re-visit one of our favourite eateries first, and yet again the experience was lovely throughout. Have to say, booking is essential, as they fill tables easily. With the picturesque landscape from the dining area it's no wonder. We'd never been seated in the window tables before, so this just added to the experience, and watching the weather pass along the Solent was wonderful. The Blacksmiths have a specials board and however inviting the options looked, I was rather famished, so the mixed grill was my only real option. (sure the 16oz T Bone would've filled the hole, but fancied variety 🙂) The missus choosing the smaller option of the Pork Belly, leaving room for dessert. It was beautiful, cooked to perfection, medium rare my preference and accompanied by a pint of Inch's Cider, our server, friendly, approachable and nothing was too much trouble. The Pork Belly, I'm informed melted in the mouth and was also delicious with creamed mash and veg. Dessert, I'm usually a starter / main man, but seeing a White Chocolate and Raspberry Creme Brulee' held me to indulge my sweet side. My Gem opting for the highly anticipated Strawberry Pavlova with Chantilly Cream. Both desserts were presented beautifully and were delicious, leaving both of us full and totally satisfied. We cannot rate The Blacksmiths high enough on our 'I.O.W must eat at' list as their team are amazing, food is lovely and the locale is beautiful. You simply must try here.

If I eat a meal better than this this year I am being spoiled. I booked several weeks in advance as many locals were telling me it was great and I was not disappointed. I had a sea bass dish with panzanella which was simply perfect; crisp and tasty, fresh and vibrant. We also had sausage and mash, and beef brisket. Both were excellent. Desserts were on another level again with all of us gushing over the plates. I was genuinely sad at the end of the meal that it was over. I wanted to eat it all over again. I'm not joking when I told our server that I felt they'd undercharged us for the meal, it was such good quality. It's also in a stunning location, set high and fairly remote on the island, with brilliant views wherever you look. A large kids play area outside provides a diversion for fidgets. You're also welcome to sit outside and order via their app for table service. The only tiny downside is it is difficult to get a table without reservation, and the car park is a little treacherous to navigate, but I'm looking for flaws. I regret I only have five stars to give this restaurant. If you live nearby I am deeply envious of you.

As one of the highest reviewed pubs on the island that allow dogs I thought we would give it a try for lunch. When we arrived they were kind and accommodating showing us to a table but seemed a little shocked that we hadn't booked in advance. To be fair given that it was early March, lunch time on a Tuesday, no holidays etc, it was soo busy! I'm not surprised now I've tasted the food! I'm quite fussy, but opted to have the (huge) chicken breast with garlic butter. It was divine, melt in the mouth chicken. I've never been able to cook chicken like that. The added mushroom in the picture was from my partners mixed grill (a little oily) but still lovely. He was very impressed with the mixed grill as well, which was absolutely huge he ended up in a food coma and falling asleep when we got back to our accommodation! I fully reccomend eating here yourself, but would probably advise booking a table first!
