Lovely countryside local pub. We enjoy going here when we are in Lealholm. Could do with a better draught larger selection. I had a gammon steak when I last went. I thought that it was a little pricey to be honest despite this I thought I'd try it. It was the best gammon steak I've had, it was thick and perfectly cooked and it had a little crackling on the side. Even the eggs on top were spot on. Normally the food price does put us off so we just have a drink but I certainly know what I'll order if we do decide to get food again! I just think that over ยฃ15 is a little expensive for gammon it needs to be about ยฃ12 or ยฃ13. Same goes for other meals they are in the high side for prices similar to a 'gastro pub' which the Board is not.

The atmosphere is friendly and the outside space is small but nice especially with the river running right past.

Parking is limiting but they do have an accessible bay outside so keep in mind you may need to park up the road. With this being a very old pub expect some difficulties if you have mobility issues.

My advice is, if you have not been to the Board before give it a go it's worth having a bevy at least in such a...

Most pubs in this area serve tasty home made pub grub, usually accompanied by hand cut home made chips. The average main meal costing around ยฃ16 - ยฃ18. We visited the Board Inn on Thursday 25th July 2024 and both had pie and chips with a pint of Inchโ€™s Cider. The food was very disappointing. The pies were the complete pastry type rather than the filling in a dish topped with pastry. The pastry was tough and chewy, very heavy. I had the chicken, bacon and mushroom and my partner had the spinach, goats cheese and sweet potato. Both pies had very little filling and what there was of it was pretty much liquid with tiny unidentifiable pieces of filling. I was expecting pieces of chicken and bacon with mushrooms, I could not identify any of the pie filling. The chips were obviously not home made however they were nicely cooked and crispy. The pies screamed poor quality mass produced reheated rubbish, definitely not up to standard compared to many other pubs in this locality. The pub is in a very pretty location and the staff are very nice, but sadly, we wonโ€™t be going back. The bill was ยฃ42 which was terrible value for the quality...

What a wonderful place! We have eaten there 3 times, and decided to go for a 3 night stay , bed and breakfast. Our hosts, Karen and Alistair, were outstanding. All the staff worked very hard , and although very busy, always had a smile. Our room was small and cosy, directly above the bar. Some of the usual pub chatter as expected was audible in our room during the evening, but didn't disturb us. The shower was red hot, and the bed... oooh so comfy. Our window seat gave a lovely view of the bridge and the river. The food....where to start! Outstanding!! I require a gluten free diet, and Alistair made certain there was a good choice. Breakfast was like a banquet with cereals, fruit salad, jams, toast, and a cooked breakfast that kept us going all day!! If you want to go to a fabulously friendly place that seems to have it all, then it has to be The Board Inn. Thank you Alistair and Karen, and all the hard working staff, for making our special weekend just...

We were recommended this establishment from friends who used to stay regularly, pre covid, but it appears to have since changed hands. A good pint of Timothy Taylor's. The bar service wasn't the most engaging but the wonderful locals made up for it. Saturday night menu was limited to seven choices of burgers, which were good. Sharon who sorted our dinner and breakfast was the saviour, a wonderful lady who was most hospitable and is 5*. The room was tiny and very warm, we later discovered the fridge in the cupboard which was the culprit for the constant whirring and some of the heat. The TV is small and the picture a terrible colour. We slept a total of 40 minutes the first night and had to cancel the following two nights that we had booked. The bed was like trying to sleep on top of a jelly, on investigation we discovered a piece of very thick foam strapped to the top of the old mattress!

7 of us stayed here on for 3 nights as we were attending my cousins wedding up the road whilst visiting from Australia. Karen and Al are the most friendly, hospitable people. We felt very looked after and attended to. We arrived late after the kitchen closed and they were kind enough to make us some sandwiches upon arrival. Our breakfasts were made to each individuals needs and the food was top quality. They provided Everything you could want. They were lovely enough to give me a pot of their honey made from their own bees as I was suffering with hay fever. Canโ€™t recommend this place enough. ๐Ÿ˜

The current proprietor took over in September 2023. We had a baguette and a drink. It was an insult beyond belief. My partner had a hot chocolate that was like muddy water. The baguette was fresh (They didn't make that) A side salad amounted to dry, mouldy leaves and nothing short of dangerous. The baguette was smeared with cheap spread, slimy tasteless cheap ham and a one inch thick lump of waxy cheese. I have never seen anything so appalling in my life. Don't worry, the pictures show a small amount, we removed the rest from the plate. Sad that the Board inn was the place to go to.
