Ruined our evening:
We visited the pub with a climbing club (20 people). Multiple people in the group were vegan and vegetarian. I ordered the vegan shepherds pie, which was very small and bland. It came with a small side of soggy, over cooked veg - two pieces of broccoli, two slices of carrot and two pieces of cauliflower.
I asked for a side of chips to bulk to it out. I was told the chips are cooked in the same oil as fish, so I passed. However, these chips are also served on the vegetarian dishes (with no disclaimer), despite not actually being vegetarian.
I was still hungry when I left and had to go to the shop for a snack.
Five other people had vegan or vegetarian dishes with a similar theme, a lot of us fed some of the food to our dogs because we didn’t like it. E.g. the vegetarian lasagne was a single sheet of pasta and cheese, covering a tomatoey sauce with carrots.
We wouldn’t have been so disappointed if the servings were at least filling or cheap. But the veg options were both equivalently expensive to meat (£15) and substantially smaller.
I didn’t complain because I was with a group of people and didn’t want to make a fuss, but also I felt like I would receive conflict from the staff due to a previous interaction earlier in the night.
This was verified when a gentleman from our group mentioned to the barman that the veggie dishes weren’t up to scratch, the barman’s response was, ‘well they should have ordered the meat then’.
The same barman (tall and maybe in his 40’s) was also rude to me at the beginning of the night, when I asked, ‘could I try the ale?’ (I.e. have a taster), he replied, ‘yes, you can have a pint or a half’. You can probably see why I didn’t feel comfortable discussing the food!
Overall, 6 of us ate veg options and all of us were disappointed. Each dish was ~£15 for small, poorly made food. I’m not being unrealistic to ask for decent quality vegetarian or vegan food, it’s 2022 and I don’t feel the rural location/community is an excuse either - I live in rural North Wales and never struggle. While it may found melodramatic, it ruined our day. We were knackered from climbing all day and we got an edgy vibe, small, not very tasty dishes that were over priced and we had to go elsewhere to top up...
Read moreI don't really wish to leave a negative review, and I'm sorry about the low number of stars, but I think I ought to share our experience in case others find it useful - see below. Our party of 15 (including 7 children) were looking for a grab around the area and based on good reviews decided to give the Bridge Inn a try. It was a nice day, and wishing to secure outdoors sitting for the children to run about, we rang the Bridge Inn at 13:00 on Sunday 23/06 to ask if we needed to make a booking for 15 people to sit outside. We were told no booking was necessary. We showed up, grabbed our menus (only Sunday lunch available on Sundays for adults) but were stopped before proceeding to the tills, being told that there's no food for all of us and that we needed to have pre-booked our lunch. We were also told that we might have called ahead to ask for outdoors sitting but we had not specified that we wished to eat? Frankly, it shouldn't really be a surprise that when a party the size of ours phones a pub at 13:00 on a Sunday asking to book a table, they are interested in eating! In any case, informing customers who bother to phone ahead that pre-bookings for food is necessary should be a no brainer? This aside, other peoples' Sunday roast looked delicious and we'd be happy to pre-order it and try it in the near future. The children were able to eat nuggets and mac and cheese - alternative options were available only...
Read moreI visited The Bridge Inn quite some time ago when I saw it whilst driving through the area. We took a chance on the quaint looking building. I am somewhat therefore surprised to remember it as being the Pub with the nicest, most accommodating staff I’ve ever met. My girlfriend has Coeliac disease and the lengths the staff went to to make sure her dietary requirements were met was honestly nothing I had seen before, the woman that served us had a family member with the same issue. We left feeling excited and refreshed from the hospitality we received. My time there was that long ago, I cannot remember the food which we ordered. But I can remember the cordiality and attentiveness in which we experienced. It is poor from me to leave this review so much later than my visit, but it has left an impression on me so positive that I remember the establishment fondly and I will 100% be returning when I’m back...
