Our family were on holiday to Reighton sands for a week and on occasions we chose to eat out at a couple of different places. And on one occasion we chose here as it was 10 minutes away from the place we had visited (NYMR). We reserved as we have been all week as we have been reading reviews of all the places we have eaten at and it seems sensible to do so around this area. When we arrived at the venue it looked so lovely on first appearances outside. Very clean and tidy inside with very traditional and authentic ornaments. So all in all a traditional countryside pub as you would expect and you hope for with a few quirky and humourous items displayed.
We were seated promptly and drinks were brought to us quickly also. I ordered the homemade steak ale and mushroom pie. Our children had the pasta Bolognese, My wife had to order a chicken burger with a slight twist as she has allergen requirements. This is where is say it started to turn. She had also asked for cheese which was overlooked by the lady taking our order. Considering we are not 'professional complainers' we decided to overlook it and continue to eat our meals in piece my wife using plenty of sauce packets available. I could not finish my pie as it quickly became very dry and difficult to eat. I think it would be safe to say there is more moisture in my work socks then there was in that beef. I'd say I left a third as I needed to eat for the journey back. Now bearing in mind as well we are 1 hour away from our caravan with 3 very hungry children so we felt uncomfortable to make comments about the food. We just needed to get everyone full.
Then the time came 'did you enjoy your meals?'. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the manager who at first we thought was open to our comments however this did very quickly change as all opinions we had were shut down. It was clear they were not prepared to listen to suggestions of improvement. The manager also had a few sarcastic remarks to make which I felt to be extremely unprofessional. I think it was pretty clear we weren't going to be staying for dessert however the following comment was made. 'do you want desserts or have you completely lost confidence in us'. Not necessary reli and sore.
Now we were still prepared to pay for the veg and the chips (which weren't guaranteed to be homemade due to how busy they were... I'm not sure what their idea of busy was. You could hear the fly at the other end of the pub hit the window). The manager refunded our meals in full and let us pay for drinks and the kids meals which I hadn't tried so can't possibly comment - I will say though that children when hungry will eat anything.
A sign in the gents toilet gives a breakdown of the percentage of effort given to a working week. Quite humourous... We went on a Thursday but as the picture shows I feel the chef was on the Friday percentage of performance... (4% effort)
Shame to have to write this review but appearances are definitely not what they seem...
Read moreWe stumbled upon the pub by accident after a day trip whilst on holiday, we had tired and hungry kids and were a few minutes late for end of food service but the staff very kindly allowed us to order. Our son has allergies and the staff had the allergen information ready to go with the menu, it was separated into the sections of the menu and clear to understand. The childrens meals were good sizes and both children demolished them in quick time. One of the main meals was the Steak and Ale pie, this was home made, short crust pastry and deep filled with big chunks of meat and served with a generous portion of mash and veg. The other main meal was the belly pork, again this was a generous portion served with mash and veg, the pork was tender and fell apart. I was nervous about trying the pork cheek croquet as I have not had that cut of meat before and imagined it to be tough but it was soft and delicious. We will definitely return before our...
Read moreWe ate at The Buck Inn on a Thursday afternoon for a late lunch/early tea. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming.
I ate off the main menu - Asian spicy noodles with a chicken breast - delicious and a very generous portion. My other half chose from the specials board - chicken & black pudding which came with a lovely selection of fresh vegetables and choice of potatoes so he chose boiled new potatoes. This was also beautiful and very filling.
We had our dog with us and he was made very welcome. It was nice to see a selection of customers in, including a group of elderly friends who said they were meeting up for a long over due catch up over lunch, and also a young family with children who were happily playing at their table. The whole atmosphere was lovely & relaxing. The pub has a wonderful charm about it, the food was great and the staff were friendly yet professional. 10/10 from us and we look forward to...
