Lacklustre, tasteless and bland.

Stopped here as the white pub with hanging baskets looked attractive from the road and a quick glance at recent reviews on Google all seemed positive.

A car load of pensioners beat us to the door and we then had a 3 minute wait in a queue behind them in the porch. The reason for this became apparent as bizarrely you had to order your drink at the front door and they were handed to you over the front bar before you were allowed through to the dining area.

The landlady who was a maudlin individual and insisted on wearing her face mask as a chin strap, covering neither nose nor mouth, advised us, with no degree of courtesy, that we could sit anywhere inside and the entire menu was on the specials board. The menu was limited, which isn’t unusual during COVID, but had the usual pub fare.

Drinks in hand, we proceeded to sit down. Around 15 minutes after sitting doing this, despite only 4 other tables in this enormous pub having occupants, again the landlady, straight from charm school came over to take our order.

I asked about the chicken curry and was told it was a madras but wasn’t too spicy, so I ordered this and my partner ordered the classic burger. Approximately 50 minutes later our food arrived. During that time, the whole dining room was ignored by the few staff, other than a personable young man coming over to put cutlery and condiments down.

The food arrived and the "curry sauce” could not have been more obviously from a jar of Uncle Ben’s if they had left the label on the side of the plate. It actually did not even taste like curry but rather a bland, fruity concoction. The accompanying oven chips were obviously straight from a freezer bag and my partner's burger not only had a bun that you could easily use as a frisbee but the meat was so under-seasoned that even copious amounts of salt and pepper failed to elevate it to something resembling tasty. The onion rings were obviously cooked from frozen and bordering on burnt, and the side of coleslaw had a bitter taste of detergent to it.

The poor customer service and appalling food could have been forgiven if the pub itself had bags of charm but the tables were sticky, the carpet would have looked dated in the 1970's, when presumably it was laid, and the entire interior smacked of forlorn neglect.

At no point did any of the staff ask if we were happy with our meals, presumably because they knew what the answer would be.

I am amazed that this place has had any decent reviews as the entire experience was akin to that of the 1980's when pubs first realised they could serve food as well alongside drinks ....and did so, badly.

If you are passing by and see this country pub, and feel you might like to try it out, I would say keep on driving and...

This pub is simply terrible, we arrived to eat on a sunday and ordered drinks from the very miserable landlady, we ordered 3 chicken roast dinners that when came looked and tasted liked a load of frozen tasteless vegetables with the peas taking up literally half the plate, with processed chicken breast frozen rolled and sliced, certainly not the freshly roasted fayre we were expecting having just paid nearly Β£10 a head. When we explained to the waitress that we were not happy, we were simply ignored, when we approached the "chef" and i do term that very loosely , we were told in a very abrupt manner that he didnt give refunds, even though we had left two whole meals. When i then explained that i would like a receipt as i would be taking it further, the landlady slapped Β£20 on the bar and told us "dont bother coming back" we were astonished to say the least and would advise anyone thinking of stopping here for a meal to drive past this place as...

Interesting place with one open room on the way to the kitchen with a pub table in but wasn't sure if it was a public area or not, likewise the space by the bar that had files and a vacuum cleaner but some people we using it to get from lounge bar to conservatory.

There was a lot of choice of food, it wasn't busy but it did take 35 minutes for the food to arrive. Maybe a simpler menu ?

I had vegetarian curry which despite looking bland and stodgy it was very nice. My family's food was nice as well but it had a very old fashion feel to it, for example the side salad had grated carrots and pinion (usual stuff) but also slice of orange, grapes and chunk of melon.

On then hope, food 3; friendliness of staff 4, atmosphere 2,...

A very traditional 300 year-old English pub complete with roaring wood fireplace. The Bulls head is known locally for its excellent home-cooked food. Steeped in local history, this interesting warren of connected rooms began as a smithy and later as a coaching house on the London to Liverpool main road. There are even a couple of grizzly murders to ponder on as you tuck into your generous meal. The Bull's Head is well worth adding to your list of great places to eat in South East Cheshire.

Pub on a main road a few miles from a junction on the M6 so if you want a break, not at a service station this is good. Decor old fashioned. Toilets would benefit from more often cleaning. Staff were friendly. Food was excellent and their main dishes have reduced portions options if you want a light meal. Good idea. Had mango chicken which was delicious. Ask if you want salad instead of chips for example, they will do this.
