Incredible little gem of a country pub! You won’t just trip over it because it’s tucked away in the most beautiful little village in (officially) the Yorkshire Dales National Park (it’s East of the M6) with a beck (small river) running right through the middle! It’s gorgeous! The pub itself has parking spaces right outside, or along the lane, so no parking miles away (or not at all!) It has a gravel garden at the back with tables there in a choice of sun or shade & a few tables at the front in bright sunshine on a good day!
Dogs & children are all welcome everywhere inside except the restaurant - OK, it’s no dogs in the restaurant side of the pub but the other side has two areas they are not only welcome but they have fresh water & a jar of doggie bickles on the bar too! They’re likely to get plenty of fuss from other pub visitors as it’s such a dog-friendly area so you might even make new friends if you want to!
The food here is absolutely outstanding - always! Everything is well thought through & almost everything is made on the premises with excellent quality, often local (Vista Veg grows the vegetables in the village!) ingredients. Portion sizes always tend towards the generous & they happily accommodate doggie-bag requests (although not compulsory to give it to your dog! 😳)
There’s always a selection of local beers & you can ask for advice to suit your taste. They also have an excellent ‘gin shelf’ & good quality tonics & fresh accoutrements provided to suit the flavour/s selected. You can always start with the ‘Gin of the Week’ - described on a little blackboard on the bar - to maybe try something new or unusual.
They have regular events with either ‘food’ or ‘entertainment’ themes. Indian food has been my personal favourite so far & I think I’ve tried every one. Mexican, American & Chinese were fantastic too. OK, they’re all my favourite! 😃 They also have some fantastic live music nights, with acts that have to return by popular demand! Check/follow their Facebook page as it’s kept up-to-date.
You’ll need to book for all food nights & usually for Friday/Saturday nights & Sunday lunchtimes! It’s definitely worth it!
Finally, I understand there are a number of well known local walks from & to the pub door so if you’re that way inclined you might want to check out the options. There are also published details, including full colour printed leaflets, in the stone shelter opposite the Village Hall (which also has a wide range of events, check Facebook, including very recent films on the monthly Friday Movie Night, which you could do after your...
Read moreVisited the Butchers Arms yesterday (1 and a half hour drive) for a roast dinner for me and my partner. When we arrived we was greeted fine and ordered the traditional beef roast dinner x 2. When the roast arrived the beef was cold, the roasties were tough and without being disrespectful was not the best roast dinner I have ever had, not even near what we are used to. We was not going to say anything as we don’t normally complain about food, but unfortunately it was inedible and I could only really eat the carrot and swede and my partner only liked the cauliflower cheese. After explaining to one of the waitresses that we didn't like the food, we asked politely if we could swap the food for another dish and we would pay that price rather than the price of the roast dinner (the burger option was £16pp or around that price and the roast was £13pp). After explaining the lady got her manager to speak to us. The manager refused to believe us and explained that she knows there was nothing wrong with the roast as she has had many orders today with no complaint. After asking us a number of times what was wrong with the roasts, we explained politely that we didn’t like it and didn’t mind paying the extra costs of the burger option (so instead of paying £13 for the roasts we would pay £16 for the burgers). She refused and explained that it “must have been our taste” and that she would not give us a swap of our meals. I was absolutely appalled!! We was so disappointed that they refused to swap the dish which we really did not like and refused to believe us in our option. We will definitely not be visiting here again and the customer service is shocking!! We left all of the food that was presented to us, the only thing I ended up eating after they refused to replace our meals was the carrot and swede and all he eat was the Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower Cheese for £13 each 😂😥 Wasted journey, will not be back! As they say “customers are always right”. Never felt so disrespected and ashamed in all of my life that you refused to believe that the food on this...
Read moreWe had a fantastic experience at The Butcher’s Arms in the beautiful village of Crosby Ravensworth. I had the breaded hake fillet with caper mash and tempura courgette — a perfectly balanced dish that was full of flavour. My wife opted for the chicken liver pâté starter and, though not very hungry, was equally impressed by the quality.
Both dishes were excellent — fresh, well-presented, and surprisingly reasonably priced. Service was warm, welcoming, and very prompt without feeling rushed. The pub itself is spotless and clearly well looked after, with a cosy and inviting atmosphere.
Crosby Ravensworth is a postcard-perfect village, and if you're in the area, it’s well worth taking a walk around before or after your meal. This place is a real local gem — we’ll...
