We recently visited the camerton for a carvery and it wasn't good at all. We told them during the check back & whilst paying, to be given every excuse under the sun. We've used the Camerton a long time ago and it was always nice, so we thought we'd give it another go with the normal menu - what a mistake. Once again, food was incredibly bland, the pattie tasted of cabbage (not sage taste at all), the pie was bland, gravy tasted of nothing, our child left his chicken goujons as they were so overcooked &dry (and he always eats everything). You'll even be able to see me on CCTV struggling to cut them up - but we'd already asked them to swap the peas for beans as asked during ordering, to be told "Sorry, I did think you'd asked for beans, but I didn't want to question the chef when I saw the peas he'd put on the plate." She did quickly bring some beans out which was appreciated, but we thought with a bit of sauce he'd be alright, but no, he didn't eat them. Both times it's taken forever to have our order taken, granted the Sunday visit was busy, but tonight it was not, then the food tonight took forever to arrive. To pay £19 for a steak pie, I don't mind paying prices like this, when the quality is good, it wasn't even average.
At checkback, the waitress did say the chef was about to do a fresh batch and we could have a new one, but again, she said that was the taste of it and it wouldn't be much difference, so decided against it, there's no point possibly wasting even more food.
When clearing our plates, the second waitress (was very apologetic) and said that everyone had complained about the pattie today and she was wondering if something had gone wrong with the batch. I did inform her that the previous waitress had said the complete polar opposite that nobody had complained and she said, "Sorry I'm just trying to be honest." Which did make me laugh. Again, no complaints she was pleasant enough.
Upon paying, the 3rd waitress (name on bill Ebony) said that she apologised again for the fact it was a poor visit for us and that they've changed to 2 chefs (not sure what she meant by this) and that food is taking longer to come out and people don't seem to be enjoying it as much.
Unfortunately, we won't be returning, as previously mentioned, I'm all for 2nd chances (every restaurant has off days) hence not reviewing for the Sunday dinner. As mentioned, this was our 2nd visit, we hoped the normal menu would change our opinion, but it certainly has not. I wouldn't choose to come back again, especially after paying nearly £45 both times (Pepsi - £4.30 - wow!). The Camerton used to be 'the' place to go, it really has gone downhill - hopefully as the waitress said, some changes need to be made and then it may start to get better again.
One positive, the kids deal is really good and he enjoyed his garlic bread & ice pop.

Read moreCame to Camerton for a meal on Sunday; party of 4. The place was nice enough but empty apart from 2 other tables. When drink order was taken, 3 out of 4 of us couldn't have our preferred drink as it wasnt stocked, so had to have a substitute. We looked through the menu and was surprised to see that the prices were so expensive. We were in a pub, not a restaurant. We all decided to have a carvery after the server told us which dishes were not available from the menu. Well, what can I say about the carvery?!! Listed was a choice of 5 meats. There were scrap ends of beef, turkey and lamb. By the time my husband was served there was only the scrap ends of 2 meats. Mash potato was just warm, veg was not Sunday roast veg and I had to ask what was in the Cauliflower cheese dish as it resembled something my dog brought up. The stuffing was like rock and the roast potatoes were so hard, my knife would not go through them. The server asked if everything was OK about 2 minutes into us sitting down to eat so none of us had a chance to make any comment on the food. My husband is a big bloke and never passes comment on much but he even said it was terrible. I ate some mash and gravy and left the rest, as did my friends. We told the server when she collected our plates that the food was awful. Her reply was that no one said anything! She was quite abrupt and did not ask about our meal. We would have expected a manager to come to speak to us but no, not a peep. The carvery was packed up and closed as soon as we had taken our meal to our table. My experience of carveries is that you can return to the veg/gravy/sauces again if you do so wish. We did not want to revisit the dishes anyway but had we have wanted to, it had all been taken away. The quality and availability of carvery food should be the same from the first to the last customer!! We paid the bill (in full) and said that we would not be returning. I would have given my rating a 0 star if I could. The sign on the way out says "if you didn't like anything to speak to a staff member". What was the point? They don't give a hoot anyway!! Don't bother going to this pub for food or drink, it is terrible. Take the road leading into Paull and visit the Humber Tavern. Great food, lovely staff, and a nice view.
**Camerton, please don't bother replying to my review as I am about as interested in your comments as you were with our comments about your poor service and...
Read moreMe and my partner stopped by here as we were passing from Keyingham so hadn't booked a table, on arrival we were kindly greeted and promptly shown a table even though there was a small queue at the door. We got seated, given menus and our drinks order taken, drinks arrived a few minutes later.
After around 10 minutes no one had come back to take our food order so I asked a staff member if it was table or bar service, the reply was table service, and I shall get someone to come over and take your order. There was plenty of staff around, at least 5-6 but from what I could see they were only clearing tables and collecting glasses.
10 minutes or so passed and still no one had come to take our food order so I had to ask another member of staff if we could order, only then a third staff member came over and finally took our order and they seemed to be the only one taking orders for the full pub.
Our mains arrived and were very much as expected, good size portions, very tasty and came in a reasonable time. Strangely though we were asked twice by two different staff members if our food was fine, to which it was so answered yes.
However, our disappointment came at the end with desert, we had ordered the Bourbon Brownie and the Fudge Cake. For the price we were expecting something special because £6.50 isn't cheap for just a single desert even from an independent pub.
Unfortunately, the Brownie arrived cold and didn't look anything spectacular, so i asked for it to be warmed up again, but when it came back it was literally a sloppy gooey mess and tasted very average.
The Fudge Cake also was partly warm with one side colder then the other and again nothing that would make you think it was worth paying that little bit extra for.
On Payment I was asked again if food etc was fine and so passed on my comments to what I believed was the manager, only to be told more or less "we try and please everybody some like it warm or some cooler" or words to that effect and there was no offer of a discount on our deserts which would have been welcomed.
Personally, I think the deserts are very Overpriced and would not recommend them. The table service could do with improvement or at least train the staff working on the floor so to enable them to take food orders as a lot of them looked very young and could maybe have been temps working over the...
