What a fabulous place! I came here with my husband & Father-in-law for Sunday lunch last weekend.

The interior is classic country pub style – not gussied up, just beautiful brickwork, stripped wooden beams, traditional open fire and some quirky artwork to give everything a current edge.

My 2 gents were really looking forward to their roast beef. I don't eat meat, the vegetarian pasta option didn't sound hugely exciting (my mistake!), but I ordered it anyway. Hmmm, quite possibly the most delicious pasta I have ever had! Absolutely mouthwatering sauce, beautiful colours and perfectly al dente.

The roasts came with the most perfect looking Yorkshire puddings and a generous array of veggies, we were all very happy .

The busy restaurant ran out of horseradish sauce during the meal, but unlike most places which would just offered an apologetic shrug.... the chef went outside, dug up some horseradish root from the garden and made fresh horseradish sauce on the spot! That, good people, is dedication to your craft!

On top of attractive surroundings and perfect food - i'd also like to give a big shout out to both the girls who were serving us... they just had such a lovely energy, warm and friendly, super helpful, ultimately making the service as exceptional as the food.

Needless to say… We...

Great roasts; we had two pork, a chicken and a beef. The beef was cooked lovely and pink, the pork was melt in the mouth with some tiny tasty crackling straws. All refined looking and good quality gravy. Bizarrely stingy on the shared veg, two carrot quarters nd two parsnip quarters between four meant just one quarter veg each. Two cauli cheese were tasty but wouldve hoped for one more given the cost. More reasonable portions on the greens which were well cooked. Service was a bit disjointed, had to ask for menus, and food took longer than expected but did get offered drinks multiple times which was good. Roasts were pricey but at least one carrot and one parsnip each probably wouldve felt it was fair value given the quality! Would return ONLY if I was without kids. They're very much against encouraging kids, which is a shame for a family meal like a roast, but I'm sure makes it attractive to some clientel. No baby change facility-i changed my one year old on the wet bathroom floor(yuck!), two high chairs for a lot of covers/tables which meant we did without until diners left, and no kids menu.

Also no disabled toilet-as the toilets are accessed via stairs so worth considering for some.

Can see why it gets good review score but unfortunately not...

Went here with my family for a special meal as it’s the only place in Taunton that does a côte de boeuf—and it didn’t disappoint! The chef cooked it perfectly blue, just how I asked, and the flavour was incredible. Staff were really friendly and personable throughout the evening, which made the experience even better.

We were booked in for 5pm and didn’t leave until after 9pm, so it was a long one! Drinks and starters took a while to come out, which caught us off guard a bit—even though the chef did say the main would take time, we hadn’t expected the wait for everything else too. I’d also mentioned the côte when I booked a couple of weeks ahead, so had hoped things might move a little smoother.

That said, they surprised me with a celebratory prosecco for my birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch and showed they’d remembered my booking. The food was great, the staff were lovely, and the atmosphere was relaxed. If you’re after a well-cooked côte de boeuf (which is rare!) and don’t mind a slower pace, it’s...

We found this place while travelling and stopped for something to eat. Lovely decor and a well stocked bar were the first things we noticed. Then, we spotted a tank with live lobsters. You can't get fresher than that! We ordered gammon and haddock, and both meals were delicious. The haddock was one of the best I've tasted. Perfect tartar sauce, just the right amount of capers and the chips cooked in duck fat had that outside crunch and were fluffy inside. Goes without saying we cleared our plates. The staff were very friendly. There was indoor and outdoor seating. The toilets were spotless with some quirky features. Shame we live so far away or we would be eating here regularly.

A hidden gem on the outskirts of Taunton! A warm welcome equally matched by the fabulous food and excellent staff. I shouldn't give it such a rave review or I'll never get a table next time I go but it's truly deserving! Will definitely go back next time I'm in the area and would recommend to anyone. The gin selection is huge, the main courses are really very good and the peach melba Eton mess is simply divine!!
