The pub itself was lovely and the owner very friendly and helpful. The rooms were awful, stayed with my dad so we had 2 separate rooms. We arrived late and were shown my dads room after we’d had a quick drink in the bar. We didn’t think anything of only being shown his room but now wonder if this was planned as when I entered my room after chatting in dads room for an hour it was swarming with flies. They were literally everywhere including all over the walls, on the bed, the pillows, the bathroom and all over the windowsill. I opened the window to try and encourage them out and that just invited more in, so I quickly shut it again. I went into the bathroom and there were a few more in there too. I checked everywhere thinking maybe something was attracting them but everywhere looked pretty clean apart from the cobwebs on beams and pictures etc. The mattress was so hard and springy that I spent half an hour or more just trying to get comfortable enough to sleep. Every time I turned the bedside light off I would hear flies flying past my face which wasn’t great to say the least!! I almost went to my dads room with my quilt as I didn’t think I would manage to sleep. When waking the next morning it turns out my dad also had an awful night bless him, his mattress was worn on both sides so had a peak in the middle and he spent the few hours he tried to sleep rolling off the bed. We both got less than 6 hours sleep as gave up at this point and hoped a good breakfast & a nap in the car later would help but breakfast was shocking to be fair, very mean portions and pre heated by the taste. The coffee was bitter and didn’t really help the experience either. I’m not one to leave bad reviews but this really wasn’t great at all and I’m surprised to have seen a plaque on the wall stating they won Four in a bed!? Excuse the photos they were taken at 1am and aren’t the best but do show some of the little visitors!

We stayed here one night and also ate at the Inn as well for my 60th birthday on the recommendation of the sister in law. Our room was very clean and everything just right with free teas and coffee wifi and soaps etc. Bed was large and comfy but room was cool on our arrival but soon warmed as we turned the radiator up. Room 5 Our meal was very good for the price and we enjoyed all three courses. I ordered Seafood cocktail which came in a popadom basket which should have worked but it did, packed with seafood and salad and tangy sauce. For mains I had liver and mash and my wife had Halibut finished off with cheese board and coffee. it was quiz night as well so we had a good night and laugh. Breakfast was ample and well cooked and a range of options, I spoke with Jill who a previous reviewer who had never met her but seen her on a TV program and formed the opinion she was rude and obnoxious, I can say she was non of the these negative comments. We both found her engaging, helpful, polite and inclusive as were all her staff even the dog.

Generally ok; comfortable bed, quiet rural location and good off road parking. We have stayed here twice before and booked to stay again but found our visit this time not quite as we'd hoped. We received a curt greeting on arrival that felt quite cool and we were asked for the room fee upfront more or less straightaway. ||We were told beforehand that rooms were deep cleaned before guests arrived but as the photos show, there was dust and cobwebs present. This is an important issue for us as my wife has a severe allergy to dog spores and we booked to stay because of the claimed 'deep cleaning'. The bedside lamp was loose on its stand and easily knocked over if touched. During our stay, the nights were cool but we couldn't put any heating on as the CH must have been switched off.||On our return one afternoon, there was a pile of laundry bags in the hall outside of our room, which stayed there all night - good job we didn't have to get out in a rush!||The bathroom was very tired with missing grouting, broken plug chain and loose toilet flush handle along with peeling paint on the bath panel. During our stay, plumbers arrived to access our bathroom to fit new shower parts whilst we were in the room. We hadn't been informed that this was happening at any point until a knock on the door by the plumber (who was very courteous and apologetic)||Whilst we were there, there was refurbishment being carried out by decorators in the bar, access hall and dining room. The decorator arrived at 6pm and was working until late each of the 3 nights we stayed. The first evening, painting was being done whilst we were having our evening meal and whilst the paint odour wasn't strong, it was noticeable. The next day, the dining room was off limits as the decorator was preparing the dining room for painting that evening. Again we hadn't been informed that refurbishment was taking place during our stay. The decorator was a very nice guy with a good banter and excellent hand to eye coordination!||Our experience of the evening meal was very good and the food was very well prepared. However, the breakfast, which on our previous visits was table service with an excellent choice, was very, very disappointing. Apart from a choice of 3 not very appetising looking cereals, only a full English (or parts thereof) seemed available, there was no Muesli or fruit etc. Coffee and tea were self service from urns, which is ok but the second morning there was no tea! ||On our first evening we had some drinks after the evening meal and instead of putting these on the final bill, we had to pay for these before we left the bar. Last times we stayed, we paid for all our meals and drinks on leaving in the final bill.||It is regretful to give such a negative review after our previous stays and hopefully the new owners can refurbish the Castle Arms and offer a service equal to our...

What I got for £115 per night?? Well we arrived and had to park out back, pitch black no lighting car nearly got stuck in mud and me and my partner had to walk through mud and puddles upon getting out of car.

Went in as soon as we got in the room we noticed a tile on the wall that had split down the middle and was hanging off wall, very dangerous and not what you want to see as soon as you arrive.

The ceiling in bathroom was all cracked, the skylight looked to be falling in and debris had came through.

Milks that were for cup of tea had gone sour, no tea spoons to even stir our tea with.

Overall room was shabby and dated but the worst thing was the noise, the walls are like paper. I could hear my neighbors using the toilet and even putting the kettle on. Me and my partner got no sleep we were so disappointed that when we got up we went for breakfast early so we could get on the road, only to be told that breakfast was 9.30

In the room it says breakfast is served 8-10 and we were not told the night before it would be later.

We didn’t go for breakfast, we got straigh on the road. Would definitely not recommend Poor service Poor rooms Very overpriced

You will see below the owner say this is not a factual review. Everything in this review is factual regarding what time I got on the road is being petty. I’m sorry you don’t like my review but it is true there is nothing in it that is untrue.

When you can hear your neighbor urinating that’s a big issue and definitely gives me enough reason to question the price...
