Came for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The pub was quiet, with just a few locals drinking at the bar. It had an unusual and off-putting smell as we came in from the fresh air. It was comfortable, but not cosy, even with the open fire.

This looks like a lovely pub, very nice garden and seating area out the front, with great views of the church next to it. This pub is in a brilliant location. Very clean tidy and friendly.

I wouldn’t even give this place one star, but don’t have an option for any less. The attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired, apart from the young lad he was pleasant, as for I presume the Landlord and female staff, it’s the worst I have experienced. The food wasn’t great, simple fried eggs came out black and inedible. When I asked what was in Vegetable Lasagne as I can’t have certain vegetables, he replied sarcastically Vegetables! The reason I feel the need to give this review is I called earlier in the day if I could bring balloon and cake in early as we were celebrating my Mums 88th birthday, they didn’t even bring the cake out, when we went to say about the cake my Dad got bellowed at to sit back down, so we paid as couldn’t bear being there any longer didn’t even get an apology about the what had happened, just attitude from the woman. Really not a pleasant experience for my Mums special day. It wasn’t just us either that received this bad attitude either. £100 for...

I've been coming to The Chequers for a long time now but haven't been for a few years due to lockdown and the pub looked closed for a while. Very sticky table and very sticky menus. Salad I had with the meal was crunchy, not in a good way, more like a small 6 legged way. They don't do cuppachinos/lattes etc so I had a normal coffee which had to be sent back because the milk was off plus other stuff floating around. It was changed with a coffee with slightly less stuff floating in it. The waiting staff weren't experienced and didn't really know what they were doing, but pleasant enough. Landlord was quite an abrupt person who I would not want to complain to so I've cowardly used TripAdvisor...

Well worth stopping by and sampling what local food and hospitality is all about.

It was a hot, dry and sunny day when a friend and I walked from North Luton to Streatley, to visit Sharpenhoe Clappers, a nearby walk.

Perfectly situated in a quiet village, it serves both the community and local walkers like ourselves well.

The settings of this country pub, having an extensive menu and producing tasty food, and attention by friendly staff, makes this a must for travellers.

On the day, Covid era post lockdown, there were only a few staff present, but they still made us feel welcome. So, given their limited personnel resources, their accomplishments on the day are much...
