3 times before we arrived I told the staff I was vegetarian. I wasn't given a veggie menu until I said there was nothing for me to eat. I chose a goats cheese mousse tart - it wasn't a tart. Tasty but a very thin layer of pastry underneath the mousse is not a tart. I ordered the curry and it was a lump of dry, compressed lentils(?) with a few spoons of dryish curry with uncooked kale(?) and probably one of the most disgusting things I've not eaten. My friends had the ploughmans lunch and the focaccia bread was exceptionally good but the butter had melted and was unspreadable so they had to get some more, the cheeses were tiny pieces of indeterminate type and fancy without being a ploughmans lunch (and NO fruit). I chose a desert but was told it contains gelatin so AGAIN I hadn't been given a veggie menu which was then produced. I don't want weird basil ice cream, fennel sugar etc just good tasty food. The music was some kind of droning jazz which was so depressing I felt I could slit my wrists and why restaurants think you want to sit there listening to THEIR taste in music I will never know. I won't be going again. Vegetarians are not respected, the server completely ignored I was veggie until reminded, said that parmigiano reggiano was vegetarian ( certainly isn't) and their taste choices are questionable. I stopped for a takeaway on the way home I...
Read moreWe selected The Cider Barn outdoor catering for our wedding at Burton Court Eardisland. Having visited the restaurant before we approached them for our event we were so impressed by the menu, the quality of the food and the service. We couldn’t wait to see if they were available for our special day.
Pauline, Sophie and the team listened to all of our ideas on what we wanted to create, budget, offered expert advice on how these could be created into a menu for our wedding breakfast and evening food. Having taken onboard everything we had said they returned to us a well considered menu that met our brief perfectly - fancy for fussy, we had some guests who prefer more simplistic food.
Every aspect of the pre planning and the day were perfect. Amazing food, beautifully presented, tasting divine. Each course was perfection. We had the most amount of compliments from guests who were blown away by the food they were served. From those who needed an adaptation to the normal menu for dietary requirements they raved about the creative, delicious meals they enjoyed, saying normally at events they are overlooked and given bland alternatives.
What a spread for the evening food, again fantastic quality, generous quantities, no-one went hungry.
If you’re looking for a caring, creative caterer for your event I cannot recommend The Cider Barn highly enough....
Read moreWe ate at the Cider Barn last night. The decor is nice and the place had a good feel about it although the chairs are not that comfortable after some time. If you have limited choice in your diet then it's a must to check the menu online beforehand. It's limited in variety, which is fine, as it would surely target seasonal offerings. My partner had a glass of red (forget which one) which was very nice. I had a glass of the Pinot which was nice, but way too warm. So I switched to the red despite ordering fish. The starters were really, really good. Couldn't fault them. The mains however were not so great. I had haddock which was way over salted. OMG salty. Its then a dilemma as to eat what you can or send it back and have one person wait whilst the other eats and then the other way round. I chose the former which was not the right choice as I had to drink over a litre of water that night. My partner also complained that her lamb was too salty, but the staff werent interested. By the looks of the other reviews we may have had a bad experience. It's not a place we'll be rushing back to. But what was cooked well was cooked...
