A good selection of ciders, the alcohol content of each marked on a chalk board by its name. The barman will look you over and tell you which one he thinks you'll like best. You will earn his quiet scorn if you order a still rather than a fizzy one. The chili here is absolutely as good as any you will find anywhere in the world; and there is also a very fine beef stew. Both come with delicious moist wheaten bread. If you are lucky, you will fall into conversation with the local film buff, an old man with a walking stick and an extraordinarily wide knowledge of the cinema of his youth (eg Can you name the actor playing the old man who falls in love with Tony Curtis in Some Like It Hot?). Do not on any account miss this place -- billed as The Cider Barn -- if you are in the vicinity.
