Come here once and you will want to come again. We were lucky that we came on a sunny day and sat outside. The view is amazing as is the location The food even better and the service exceptional. The most popular choice for us was the lobster and it was the best ever.
It is located right on the beach and we first enjoyed a walk along the path at the back of the beach walking towards the Isle of Portland. I think this must be the start of chesil beach. Although quite barren there is some interesting flora and fauna along the way. Going the other way from the Club House is the West Bexington Nature Reserve. This is what the Dorset wildlife trust has to say about it. “A small coastal reserve, offering a welcome resting place for a wide range of migrant bird species, and a permanent home for a host of interesting wildlife. Nestled behind the shingle beach, our West Bexington reserve includes a stretch of reedbed with grazing marsh and mixed coastal scrub behind, and is joinly managed with a local farmer. As well as grazing to keep the wet grassy meadows in good condition we cut the reedbeds and scrub blocks on rotation to maintain a diversity of age growth and structure. Along with the surrounding sympathetically managed land this area offers a first resting and re-fueling point for arriving migrant birds as well as the resident wetland and scrub species such as Cetti's warbler, reed bunting, and linnet. The scrub also provides for habitat for dormouse and shelter for reptiles while the reedbed and ditches support water vole, great-crested newt and a good range of dragonflies.
The reserve also includes the section of shingle directly in front of the reedbed”
We look forward to...
Read moreWhat a disappointing lunch we had today. All looked so promising! Chose a lovely little starter which was very nice . Main course arrived about 20 minutes later but staff hadn’t cleared the starter plates before the mains arrived!
Both main courses were presented nicely . Although hubbys crab Linguine was lacking in seasoning . My main of sardines was a little too rich. A very creamy sauce that could have done with a bit of a citrus zing for balance of flavours. However we sat and sat after eating our main course whilst the staff were taking orders around us and seemed to not notice we had finished. This was by now at least 30 minutes after finishing our mains. Eventually caught the eye of our waitress and ordered ice cream each. Another 20 minutes went by and again we had to ask someone where the desserts were. Another 5 minutes said the waitress Finally the ice creams arrived but mine was melted and my husbands order was wrong!!! We decided not to eat them and asked for our bill and explained why we were leaving. We were a bit cross but was told by waitress not to be so aggressive!!? What a total disappointment this place is. Such a lovely position overlooking the sea . They said their kitchen was very small, but the restaurant and outside area is very large and there didn’t seem to be much control over how many people they were seating . So the balance of coping with a small kitchen and the number of clients was completely out of balance. Owners please take note of this as you need to train your staff better at keeping an eye on clients throughout their meal. Also to be a bit more respectful when a valid...
Read moreOn our visit in July .. A party of ten including a fish chef and one disabled in a wheel chair. We were just on a visit to see fishing conditions and decided to to have a look, we have been to the cafe here for many years and was surprised to see it had changed to fish restaurant. Our chef was interested to see the fish as it is his expertise. He is picky about his fish and gave a thumbs up after talking with one of the chefs preparing for the evening service, the fish counter was full of very freshly caught local fish and had a good selection, I love samphire and they had this and other seaside herbs for garnish. We decided to stay for tea, hot chocolate, coffee and iced coffee sitting outside in the beautiful seaside garden, mostly wheelchair friendly. While waiting for our drinks we perused the menu, it changes frequently due to the availability of the local foods, it is quite extensive and I have an idea what to order on my next visit. This is a smart fish restaurant in a great location especially when the weather is good and you can make use of the garden, for something more special the main building is very nicely furnished in a comfy style. All the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and accepted us in our holiday attire , it was after lunch and before dinner and we did sit outside. Dress up for the evening and have dinner in style you will have a wonderful experience and a...
