We stayed here for a weekend away on the 10th February whilst visiting friends nearby and travelling up to Liverpool for the day on Saturday. Ideally situated across the road from the station which was brilliant. Yes you do hear the trains but not so much that it will ruin any sleep or enjoyment of your stay. Vicki greeted us on our arrival and was very helpful and accommodating. We had booked the apartment above the pub accessed by a door to the side of the pub. If you go to bed early and there is music on (which there was on the Saturday when we stayed) you may hear the noise from below but we were in the pub enjoying the music so it wasn't a problem for us! They also have rooms doubles and twins across the car park and behind pub. Our apartment was fabulous! I loved it and could quite easily have moved in for a week! Up the stairs there is a kitchenette to your left with kettle, microwave, cooker, sink and fridge and a dining room table with four chairs. There is a breakfast bar and two stools separating kitchen from the lounge which has 2 large sofas, coffee table and large tv on the wall. Through a door from the lounge and down one step the large bathroom is on your right with over bath shower, toilet and sink. Pressure could have been a bit better on the shower but perfectly adequate. The bedroom is large! Large wardrobe with extra quilt and pillow if needed, a sofa and TWO yes two double beds! The bed was SO comfortable! I did not want to give it up! Had a really good sleep! All in all the apartment was lovely and also allowed us to have our friends round for a drink before and after dinner. Plenty of sockets throughout the apartment too. We had dinner in the restaurant on Friday night and the food was excellent! Really enjoyed the meal. It was busy too so obviously enjoyed by regulars as well as visitors. Vicki was well spoken of by a customer that we got chatting to as well. Also, for late night food after a drinkie or two, there was an excellent Chinese take away just over the bridge! We had breakfast in the apartment on Saturday and I have to say the smoke alarm was a little sensitive! We set it off 3 times just with toast but it just made us laugh. At least it works! We didn't have breakfast here on Sunday, either in the apartment or the pub which also does a continental breakfast so I cannot comment on this. What I will say is that I would definitely go back! Thank you for a...
Read moreFirst time in there and definitely my last. My daughter wanted to treat me to a Sunday dinner. So we called in around about 5pm. There weren't many people in and just a Carvery was being served. So my daughter enquiried about any Vegetarian options for me. None whatsoever on offer or available and nothing substantial to offer in place, not even a hint of a veggie soup. A member of staff went into the kitchen and asked on my behalf only to receive a negative reply. Quiet shocking really. Here in 2021 I was lelt to feel like I was being dismissed for my choice of dietary lifestyle. They did however offer a plate of vegetables at a reduced price. So I asked the price and it was £8.95, the same price as a childrens meal, as opposed to the full £14.95 adult meal. I was a little taken aback by then with all the negative responses and decided that it wasn't worth paying that for a plate of vegetables. I said to my daughter that I would be fine with just a drink. I could see that she was disappointed. It was very much 'take it or leave it attitude'. I wanted to bolt but my daughter was really looking forward to a Carvery and it was getting late for the baby. Someone's conscience must have been playing up because in the very end a lovely lady said to my daughter tell your mum to get a small plate and help herself to the vegetables for free. I didn't want to ruin anything and went up to explore my only option. There were hardly any vegetables there anyway and being totally honest they were barely luke warm and were clearly the leftovers. I would never ever have paid for that. By then I was now more disheartened. Overall it was quite a poor show from the Coachman in regards to hospitality. I sat there looking at this almost impressive wall menu; full of 'Plats de Mer' whilst pushing cold leftover vegetables around my plate. Yes I appreciate that they were free but they were such a sad show. Don't let me forget to mention that there are no highchairs on the premises and no baby change facilities in the toilets either. They did have a disabled toilet without any baby changing facilities and it also had ran out of paper towels and had no other hand drying facilities. In summary our little trip out for a local Sunday dinner out was a total write off, in both of...
Read moreBooked the coachman as we getting a train to the Midlands with family. Initially communication was very good and flexible around our travel schedule (Late check in 10.30pm)
We didn't expect much from the rooms, we expected basic.
The rooms were just that (But dated and need some tlc)
The bed was awful so uncomfortable, it felt like an iron bar was digging into us.
The bedding is thread bare, towels are miniscule and very old, not fit for purpose.
At 6.30am in Sunday morning, we woke to workmen drilling and sawing with a radio playing.
I got up to close the window but it was already closed, so we couldn't minimise the noise. I asked the workman if he could keep it down but he didn't understand English.
After our showers and packing, we went to depart, however we didn't know eat to do with the key, we were not instructed the night before.
My partner went into the pub, but nobody was around, so she knocked on the accommodation door. A lady who looked like she'd had a heavy night appeared in Pyjamas, not looking happy.
She rudely / loudly said "Why didn't you leave the key in the room" We said we were unaware of the process.
She said "There is a note in the room". Now we sometimes have a flick through hotel guides, menus etc, but having arrived late we went straight to bed.
We found the lady / landlady / staff member very rude and out of order.
Such a shame, this used to be one of the more prestigious pubs in town, however it's clearly hit rock bottom and not been updated since the 90s.
The grounds were tatty, full of weeds, litter and need to be improved.
We stay in a LOT of hotels sadly we won't return here, we're stick to Hartford...
