AVOID THE FOOD!!!! SERIOUS HEALTH HAZZARD!!!! Avoid this place for a meal … We were a group of 26 adults & children that had pre-ordered a Sunday Lunch weeks in advance … The burgers were over-cooked with burnt bacon, the chips and batter on the fish was rock hard! I had ordered the Vegetarian Nut Roast and what I received what totally inedible!!! I first had to question the waiter as to whether the gravy they had given me was a Vegetarian Gravy, he wasn’t sure so went off to ask and returned saying that it was .. I was not convinced so tried it, and it was definitely Meat gravy!!!! So I ignored that, only to find that the Nut Roast had an awful odour to it that was enough to turn anyones stomach!!! It had clearly been defrosted & then re-frozen at some point!!!!! So I left the meal, I was never asked if my meal was ok and didn’t see the waitress until she came over to clear away … I explained to her that my meal was inedible and she replied ‘I did ask if it was ok and you said Yes’ … So I pointed out that she didn’t ask me! To which she said ‘do you want something else’ I replied No as everyone had finished eating and she said ‘ok’ and continued to clear away the plates!!!! I resorted to the fact that I wouldn’t be paying for something I couldn’t eat, without realising that my Mother-In-law had already paid after the starter! So we received No Apology and NO REFUND of the cost of a meal that was not eaten! And a waitress that had zero customer service!!! Clearly the chef is NOT a chef at ALL and if he is …. Doesn’t try the food before sending out to its victims … YOU should be utterly disgusted with yourselves for sending out such AWFUL inedible food that is nothing more that a health hazard!!!!! We will NOT be returning and their isn’t enough money to even pay me to eat there ever again!!!! Even the Coffee’s you serve are at best ‘Lukewarm’ that arrive with an awful ‘soft’ out of date biscuit!!!! That was spat out into napkins by 4 people!!!!! … I await a phone call or a refund to the card!!!! But that’s probably as much of a joke as the Meals...

Stayed here for work for a week, upon arrival the venue looks smart with plenty of parking space, all is clean in the grounds , the hotel and the bar area, my only criticism is the heat off the room and the noise of the revellers outside drinking. The rooms are nice and clean but are way too warm and if you try opening a window the noise from the bar area is too much. There is no housekeeping if you need towels replacing contact the bar. The thing that I thought I would ignore but can’t is the fact that I left my apple phone charger (£55) in the room (it happens that’s why they have a lost property box), when I contacted the hotel I was told they have it, I asked them to hold it for two weeks when I would be back to pick it up, “ok” they said, two weeks later I arrived to pick up the charger to be told they cant find it, somebody has clearly taken it, make of that what you will! The woman who said she would hold the charger presented herself and asked for my phone number as she would check with the other staff content that it would surface, that was 4 weeks ago and nothing, I bought this charger it didn’t come with a phone and as such I am out of pocket. Yes I should have taken it but who hasn’t forgotten items in their room…. as I said, this is why they have lost property boxes, they said they had it and that they would hold onto it…..as I say, make of that what you will. Won’t be...

A Truly Wonderful Experience

Staying at The Cock O’Barton was an unforgettable experience for us. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed. The cosy atmosphere, the historic charm, and the attention to detail throughout the hotel were truly impressive.

Our room was spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and everything was arranged for a relaxing stay. Dinner was exceptional — beautifully presented and full of flavour. The service was quick and genuinely friendly.

Breakfast was also fantastic. Everything was fresh, there were plenty of options, and it gave us a perfect start to the day.

The staff were kind and attentive, always ready to help, which made our stay even more enjoyable.

One small suggestion: since the hotel has such a rich history, it would be lovely to have a small booklet or brochure in the rooms (or available at reception) that tells the story of the building and its past. It would add a special touch and help guests feel even more connected to the place.

All in all, we were very happy with everything. If you’re looking for peace, comfort, great food, and a charming atmosphere, we wholeheartedly recommend it. We’re already looking forward to...

we stayed as a guest for 2 nights for partnere birthday but chose to dine in our room due to having an 8 week old baby who is being breast fed. staff were lovely especially the 2 ladies who clean the rooms we had a lovely chat, place was lovely really enjoyed it. only let down was the food :( we had jerk chicken and garlic bread VERY greasy including the garlic bread we left half of it. breakfast was very greasy even for a fryup. sausages are weird tasting. 2nd morning we opted for cereal, toast and fruit was lovely! atmosphere 5/5 room 4/5 (could do with a 2 seater chair n table) price 5/5 (took advantage of offer £70 per night) food 2/5 (only 2 cos of the fruit/cereal otherwise 1) staff 5/5 location 4/5 (right on a main road but supprisingly quiet) *bonus* malpas kebab delivers to the hotel and food was AMAZING! This hotel would be brilliant if they improved their food as it has all the marks, nice staff, lovely location, reasonable prices, nice room....... just fix the food guys :)

this was our fourth trip. we went back as we had enjoyed the food in the past. We went for lunch on the Thursday and i had steak burger. It was o.k but messy to eat as the bun was not big enough for the burger and not worth the money. We had booked weeks prior for the following night also as we didnt want to turn up on a Friday and be turned away and it was my wifes birthday. It was very hot weather with no fans or air con but the windows were open which caused wasps to come in. Also, disappointingly, the menu was exactly the same as the lunch menu the previous day minus sandwiches. Had we realised this, we would not have booked. A speciality was fishcake with salad which i ordered but was very disappointed. Im sure t had been deep fried, was dry and hard and more like a potatoe cake. The salad was nice. I dont hink we will return which is shame as weve always enjoyed it prior to this trip. i will include pics of the fishcake.
