OUR PERFECT LITTLE RUSTIC WEDDING We had our wedding reception at the Coddy Shack last month, while on our family holiday. This wasn’t our original plan we had a couple of postponements last year due to covid, and now believe everything happens for a reason. Although last years wedding was postponed we still had the holiday in Looe and actually came to coddy shack twice in one week and fell in love with the quirky venue and the amazing Fish & Chips! I contacted Hannah early this year and explained a little bit of how we wanted to celebrate our special day. She was great, she explained that due to covid things may be a little restricted and luckily for us we were planning a micro wedding anyway. It turned out that by June and with lifting of certain restrictions we were able to have the most beautiful day! She kept in touch leading up to the holiday, keeping me calm with lovely text messages. We arrived in looe a couple of days before wedding and went to see Hannah the night before. I took all our decorations (there was a lot) and she just got me! She had kept me calm and basically sent me on my merry way leaving her to decorate the room. After our amazing ceremony in looe we got to the Coddy Shack and we were blown away with how much effort Hannah and her team had gone to for us. She saw my vision and went further! The views from the back of the marquee were astounding and the table was so perfect every little detail she had gone to was noticed by our party! The food was beautiful, and served in little cardboard boxes and personalised for our day! The grazing boards for the evening were amazing, but unfortunately everyone was still stuffed from Fish n chips, so they boxed them up for us to take home they lasted us for the next day or two lol! Big shout out to Harry & Logan who were our waitresses for the evening, nothing was too much trouble and they had a smile on their faces all day and night, lovely lovely ladies. They saw to our every need. When it was time to go home we couldn’t get a taxi and Logan took 3 trips in her car to make sure everyone got home, what a star! The whole team are just amazing and gave me the most perfect day. THANK YOU...
Read morePlease note this is a review from a customer who is only staying local for a short time and is used to the highest quality of fish and chips. This place was given mixed reviews by word of mouth at the place I'm staying, some say it's good and others wouldn't go back so of course we had to try it for ourselves. Haddock: pros: you could taste the freshness of the fish and it wasn't dressed in oil. Cons: the batter was average. Sausage in batter: pros: the batter was coated nicely and evenly across the sausage. Cons: the sausage itself didn't taste great. Chips: pros: there were plenty of crispy bits for those who like that at a chippy. Cons: the oil wasn't fresh, all the chips were covered with the bits that are found at the bottom of a chip pan when not fresh and several chips were filled with oil. Note: the large chips would feed one hungry male or two average/small eaters. Chilli: pros: the container! Better than the others that other takeout places use and reusable! Cons: it tasted like frozen chilli warmed in a microwave and lacked flavour. Shack burger: pros: brioche bun always a win. Cons: one large patty, one small, which tasted like frozen brought pattys put in an oven, similar to Iceland. The salad wasn't fresh Lack of burger sauce Curry sauce: pros: unusual, not your average curry sauce, the bits in it were slightly sweet. Cons: not the best tasting curry sauce. Overall average sauce. The building itself was lovely, laid out very pretty and the staff seemed friendly, maybe we caught the staff on a bad day but unfortunately the food was not something which would entice us to visit again. However, I've tried to balance the review as best as I could and would always recommend people try the place and make their own judgement as everyone's tastebuds...
Read moreIt's a fish and chip shop. The aesthetic, location and hype of this place gave an excuse for the long queue so we stopped in for some take away fish & chips, when we got in the queue there were 2 customers in front, in total we waited for just over an hour got the food back to the caravan and the chips were dry, crispy and greasy and the fish didn't have much taste at all, the party we were with had booked a table for the second night so thinking they were just short staffed we went and gave it another go, the wait was just as long but I expected that as a sit down meal but not a take away, my partner ordered the pan fried fish with new potatoes which tasted ok, I had the steak and at £25.50 was definitely not worth the price, it tasted like a beef roast rather that a fillet steak, the chips were just as greasy as the previous night. On a positive, the side salad tasted amazing, it was fresh and dressed beautifully and the lemon meringue that followed was excellent.
I can't fault the staff, they were polite, friendly, couldn't do enough really the place looks nice, wasn't to packed just the floor was covered in oil near the back part of the restaurant where we were situated from the staff walking from the kitchen and was horrendously slippery.
It was an ok meal, and during the day I would expect it has amazing views out over the hill and sea, but I don't think it's...
