We ate here today for the second time in recent months and I am very much appalled by our experience. They were extremely busy and consequently there was a wait for food, which we expected being the school holidays AND a Saturday; however, when the food was brought to our table it was less than satisfactory - it was disgusting! My husband was brought a semi-cold lasagne with a limp and lifeless salad costing £8.95, and in addition to that he had to pay an extra £2.95 for a very small bowl of fairly cold chips (smaller than a soup bowl)! I myself had a mixed cheese ploughman's, which stated it came with crusty bread, pickles, chutney, a selection of cheeses and fresh salad. Well what a joke! This £7.95 ploughman's only resembled the description on the menu slightly. The crusty bread was in fact a soft roll (which credit where it's due was very nice along with the Brie), the pickles consisted of 2 very horrid looking pickled onions, a bowl of sandwich pickle and a pickled egg, there was absolutely NO chutney whatsoever, but instead some very yellow congealed looking coleslaw (which I was informed was apparently fresh, but something I have never experienced with coleslaw before; fresh or otherwise!) and the salad had dirt on it! All that deliciousness for just £7.95! I told one of the younger waitresses who took it away and said that it would be dealt with.....20 or so minutes later no-one came back about my food, so I had to go to the bar and speak to a member of staff about the issue as nobody had bothered to come and deal with me....so much for being a valued customer! After rudely being ignored by the bar staff who chose to serve other customers before myself despite the fact that I was stood there a fair while, I was finally dealt with and the manageress was sent for. Personally, with the exception of the member of staff who spoke to me at the bar (a lady with dark hair pulled back into a ponytail) the staff could use some training! The manageress in particular could benefit from some customer service training as her attitude frankly stunk! She said that she had been to the kitchen to look at my meal and didn't know what the issue was, when I explained the issues at hand, she told me that the coleslaw was fresh and was meant to look like that; and then she went on to insult my intelligence by saying that I obviously had never had "fresh" coleslaw before, and then when I challenged her about the dirty salad, she (not in so many words) indicated that I wasn't telling the truth, despite the fact that I told her I had showed it to her young waitress! She reluctantly and begrudgingly gave me a refund for my meal, but she clearly did not want to as she slammed my money into my hand and said 'thank - you' rather curtly. Needless to say that we did NOT have a good experience and we will NOT be returning to the crooked inn! This day and age the customer is NEVER right and it was a good job for their sakes that I wasn't a...
Read moreLet me start with room, I had the four poster bed room which was clean and comfortable. It was on the ground floor and suitable for people who has problems with steps and stairs. The lady who showed me to my room was helpful offering to take my case. It was directly on the court yard which had seating for the bar. Ot was a great location to sip a G&T. But later at night from my room I could hear everything going on, even with double glazing and windows shut. When ordering drinks at the bar service was quick, bar staff was helpful and courteous. There was a group of us staying for a course at RNLI Regional office. We decided to sit together, we had to order at the bar, but she demanded although we were paying separately that we all put our orders in together. Which made a lady weight to put her order in though she had joined the que earlier. Myself and a colleague ordered a starter, when the food was delivered the main course came first. I said to the waitress that two of us ordered a started. She snapped back that is on its way and I had not ordered the calamari or a starter of any kind. She then came back with one started and a main couse of scampi and chips for me. I said I had not ordered two main courses but she didn't care. The resterunt was not busy. My gammon was more like rashers of bacon. Chips were the best part of the meal. While we were deliberating on dessert we were told to hurry up as the kitchen was waiting to close for the night. Breakfast was a totally different service, kind, courteous and helpful lady. Though coffee and drinks were self service she offered to bring them to the table. Breakfast was hot and tasty I had the full English. Unfortunately the coffee was luke warm. Breakfast is included in the price. Check out was fast and easy. I would recommended the B&B side 100%. Unfortunately not the evening meal as I was shocked by the waitresses attitude that I was wrong and it...
Read moreWe visited The Crooked Inn last night (13/06) for a family birthday meal and, unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
Ironically, we encountered many of the same issues we experienced exactly a year ago, but we chose to give the place another chance.
The food was mediocre at best, though mostly edible. Unfortunately, the service was poor from the outset. Staff felt unwelcoming and unhelpful, which set the tone for the evening.
Our drinks order was taken before we’d even had a chance to sit down, leaving no time to settle in or consider our choices - nor was there a drinks menu.
The server didn’t stay long enough to ask about any allergies. We specifically requested that one of the fish dishes be served without lemon due to a citrus allergy. Not only were we told, “I’m not sure if lemon comes with this,” but the dish arrived with half a whole lemon on the plate and we had to our swap meals as a result.
We also asked for my young daughter’s meal to be brought out as soon as it was ready, but it arrived last—and was piping hot. When she was finally able to eat, the chicken goujons were quite peppery and mildly spicy, which didn’t seem appropriate for a children’s dish. The meal was also overly salty.
We spent over £130 just on main courses and had planned to stay for desserts and more drinks, but instead chose to leave and go elsewhere.
Overall, it was another disappointing experience, made worse by a lack of care or attentiveness...
