This is a great little pub, the type of which is hard to find these days. It's a proper English pub that hadn't had its character removed by corporate UK. You won't find gastro delights, but you will find warm, cosy and friendly.
The pub is split into the dining and bar areas. The bar is small but it's a cosy atmosphere and there's always a bit of craic to be had.
The dining is good and honest. If you want well presented gastro pub with carefully crafted presentation then you may want to consider elsewhere. The Sunday lunches are well cooked and very generous - go for the smaller plates if you're not a big eater. They can be real belly busters otherwise.
The owner and staff are very friendly and try to accommodate any requests in terms of variation. If you haven't been there then give it a go... My recommendation... On a cold and wet Sunday, go for lunch, retire to the bar, but have a taxi on standby just in case you decide your afternoon is going to be a little longer than you...
ย ย ย Read moreWent here with my hubby for a meal as we were looking for somewhere different to our usual haunts. We were so glad we chose The Cross Keys. We haven't been for years and now can't wait to go back, it was excellent. From the warm welcome when we came through the door to the first class service which was swift, friendly and very menu knowledgeable. The friendly landlady advised against getting two portions of potato skins as they were massive and she was definitely right. We shared a huge plate which were lovely and really well cooked. Hubby went for Chinese chicken curry with rice and chips which he said was lovely. I had chicken kiev which was also very tasty and filling thanks to a huge bowl of homemade chips between us. Would have liked to sample dessert but honestly didn't have the room....
ย ย ย Read moreCosy atmosphere, super friendly and helpful staff. On our visit a reduced menu was on offer due to the covid pandemic but a party of mixed vegetarian and meat eaters including both adults and children all found something appealing and satisfying on the menu.
Portions were generous and the quality of food was superb. Chips were excellent - among the best chips I've eaten in any restaurant. The desert menu had something for everyone and the rhubarb crumble was sharp and sweet and perfectly balanced with custard.
Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. Indoors ha a one way system in place. Beer selection seemed comprehensive and the IPA on offer was tasty, crisp and refreshing.
Although there is parking available there is also plenty of street parking available...
