This is a review that is difficult to write. Let’s start with the rooms. We paid £135 for two nights here. The rooms - whilst a little tired and in need of a refurb in places - were comfortable. The beds were incredibly comfortable and were very helpful for a great nights sleep. However, watermarks on the walls, sections of the bathroom decs peeling were evidence that the rooms needed a bit of TLC. However; this could be overlooked! The decor in the bar & restaurant was really nice, so nice in fact that it leads you into a false sense of security with regards to quality of food served and standards of service. Let me start by saying; the lady - who seemed to be managing the establishment - is extremely good at what she does and does not deserved to be drawn into the following. The first night - and only night - we ate at the above was kicked off by being told we had a reservation at 7.30. Which when we arrived had not been made by the staff - this was fine; the restaurant was not busy anyway. We were seated and were then made to wait 40 minutes for our order to be taken; despite members of staff clearing tables around us. The starters were extremely nice, which was the high point of the evening. What followed was an unmitigated disaster. I ordered the most expensive dish on the menu - the rib eye steak. And to say it was THE WORST steak I’ve ever eaten was an understatement. Whatever cut of meat the senior management of the pub had ordered had obviously been done on the cheap because I would not have fed it to my dog. Honestly, a Wetherspoons steak would have been better value. Overall, the pub is expensive and nowhere near value for money. The rooms are cheap and comfortable and if you are staying here as it is in a very good location I recommend going onto trip advisor to find highly rated restaurants in the nearby market town of guisborough. You will be a lot happier eating there.

This is ok, not great. Located right next to an A road, it is very noisy for sleep. We arrived late at night, with a huge car park, you won’t have bother getting a space. The outside seating was really pretty, with the lights dangling from the trees. We got our key from the night Porter and grabbed some snacks from the vending machine (contactless card payment accepted). The room was alright, functional and clean looking. I was not impressed by the dirty bath towel, that is disgusting and clearly was missed by housekeeping. Also, the TV did not work; switches on but no channels? Weird and irritating. I didn’t get any sleep, because I opened the window for fresh air, so every car going past woke me up, with the noise and the headlights. Breakfast- the staff were friendly and quick to serve. Only problem was the loud dance music being played in the kitchen, this wasn’t that nice during breakfast. The breakfast itself was a bit naff; cheap and nasty sausage, the mushrooms were rubbery. I just think it could have been a bit more pleasant, but you can’t win them all. The coffee was decent. Except for the cooked breakfast, the continental one was open, grabbed two croissants and some fruit juice. This place should be better, considering it belongs to a huge company like Greene King. I wouldn’t return here.

Nice pub/hotel chain in Guisborough off a busy main dual carriageway (be careful when pulling in if you haven't been before and indicate early for other cars' safety). Nice rustic setting with a lovely view of Roseberry Topping (before it's ruined by a caravan park 🙄). Staff are friendly and welcome. Food is good quality. Nice atmosphere. On the flipside, as a 'scran man' I found the portions a little meagre (compared to, say, the Norman Conquest down the road which provides massive portions at cheaper prices). Prices are therefore quite dear in this regard. Wait time for food was quite long too, despite it being relatively quiet (5pm on a Thursday). Overall, brilliant surroundings and atmosphere but the actual food side could be better.

My friends and I visited the Cross jets Guisborough, when we arrived we went looking for a table outside but by the 5th table trying to seat ourselves and not 1 clean table we decided to sit down ,, When waitress came sover we asked politely if she could wipe the table down ,but she put basket down with cutlery in and walked away, Then another lady walked over and we asked her she said OK walked away and didn't come back it took us till another waitress to come over to have it cleaned . We put our order in and the food was atrocious myself ordered a beef and ale pie which must of been reheated in microwave cos no way was it fresh as it was as dry as the Sahara desert inside ,, My 2 friends didn't have much joy either as the fish was disgusting,, we reported our disappointment to the staff ,, We went inside and sat in the drinking area , nr were the kitchen was , 1 of the chefs come out kicking the door and swearing, and then returned kicking the door open to go back in kitchen ,, We don't know if 1 of the staff was a manager or supervisor but she was dressed in a white vest and 3/4trousers tattoo all over her arms ,eating and shouting orders at other staff , Went to pay the bill and the lady said I didn't have to pay as I had not touched mine ,which was fair enough ,My friends wanted to use our blue light cards and was informed only 1 can use it even though we were paying separately, All I can say is if we had been food critics ir health and safety you would of had a serious issue ,Or staff were not at all professional or respectful ,Also the toilets need sorting as there was a foul smell as walking in .The building and surroundings are beautiful but it was a very big let down and very upsetting as we were really looking forward to having a good meal and get together with friends. Yours sincerely Carol Brown

To The Owner I would like to thank you for getting back to me on my review , But i would like to point out on observation firstly the outside tables werent marked they were dirty ,,spilt salt ,water which we asked to be cleaned but was not cleaned until we had asked 3 different people , I can understand you are being loyal to your staff , but in my oppinion no staff should be in a vest and 3/4trousers shouting at staff while eating food and food in their hand while you have customers in the restaurant , I can not say anything about other pies but only the 1 i received which was dried up .plus the fish my friend received was not up to standard .The ladies toilets were smelling but i dont know if it was the drains but was not a pleasant smell ,The blue light card was an issue because we did say we wanted seperate bills , so that means 3 seperate customers Yours...

Whilst service at breakfast was good very attentive the day after we checked in but thats the only positive I can say.

We booked a family room 3 children youngest one is 3 and doesn't need a spareroom as my sister was told few weeks before her wedding we require an extra room, baring in mind these booking were comfirmed November/December and she would have advice them amount children on booking.

Anyways I'd already arranged with my mum who was staying at same place could she have one of my children in same room as her prior to the visit, we had driven 2 hours 30 minutes to check in and the manager attitude towards me and my children was disgusting questioning where is my 3 child staying at this point the bride had to step in and explain one children staying with our mum that she then asked what room is she in and wanted my mum name (my sister had confirmed all these on booking) and I certainly don't appreciate after a long drive to be greeted like I was.

Following to this we sat down in area reserved to bridal party and two drinks later for me to witness my sister stressed out as same manager then pulled my sister to one side accusing one guests of bridal party smoking weed in rooms and advising she'll be charge for entire floor to be cleaned even rooms not party of bridal party.

I'm sorry not only do you need to be sure this was the bridal party, you need to be absolutely certain! You caused unnecessary upset to both brides to find out there's other guest on that floor not part of the bridal party! And no apology either!

Not to mention before 11pm we was rudely told to clear off to our rooms as they need to set up for morning at this point there was about 8 of us trying to finish our drink's.

The beds were ok but room was a bit warm, overall average stay with better customer service in the morning, I suggest approaching guests diplomatically rather than blunt response we had.

Whilst I appreciate the fire safety regs this issue should have been squeshed prior to turning up on night especially when I have 3 children all...
