Worst eating out experience I've ever had. Booked for The Crown's reopening after Covid on Mother's Day. Received a call to say they'd experienced a power cut and to turn up a little late - expect to eat an hour after original booking. We did this gladly, after all a power cut is not the pubs fault and we actually felt bad for them - what a stressful way to reopen! Sat in the lovely beer garden with a drink until we were shown to our table at which point the day went rapidly downhill. Inside was full to the brim packed with customers making it a noisy and stressful experience. Our starters arrived 45 minutes after being seated - this was actually an hour after the delayed eating time...2 hours after our original booking! But we weren't the only ones and it was impossible to ignore the tables around us all without food. Mains then arrived another hour and a quarter later! Disappointingly the food wasn't even that good - starters were nice but we were so hungry by this point we honestly barely paid attention, the pork was dry and incredibly salty, beef was impossible to cut, nevermind chew. There was even a piece of plastic wrapper amongst the meat on one of our plates! By this point we'd been at The Crown for 3 and a half hours and were fed up and wanted to leave so asked for our desserts to be taken away with us (as did other tables around us). Thoroughly disappointing and we all left wishing we'd stayed at home. Management did not step up to the problem and simply could've offered free/half price drinks...even bread?! as tables waited to be served. While waitresses were lovely, at no point did any staff acknowledge the wait time, almost like their original excuse of the power cut covered it. Power cut or not, The Crown clearly overbooked today and bit off more than they could chew leading to an absolute shambles of a...

Very very over priced sub standard mean portioned food. Mine was vegetarian (I am not a veggie but loved the sound of it) and was mean in size, tasteless and you had to pay extra for chips to make it a balanced meal. Meal was so unpleasant I basically paid nearly £17 for some MacDonald style chips and completely left the 7cm bland soufflee on top of some horrible tasting cold veg. I am not normally fussy at all and have never left an entire paid for meal before . Birthday Lunch ruined. All they said was "they would tell the chef". Others around the table described their meals and "fine" and "okay" which included a stale sandwich with little inside, that again you had to order extra chips or salad and my partner had to donate half to me, so I could eat something other than chips. They all tasted my tiny soufflee and agreed it was awful. The pub itself is beautifully done out. The blonde lady serving us was not unpleasant but did give us the impression she was doing us a favour letting us eat in the half empty pub and I noted when she collected the plates she didn't ask if everything was okay and even served the desert (ice cream for a child) in her coat and scarf because she was "finishing".

Back to the Three Tuns in Egglestone down the road for us.. they never disappoint in taste, portions or friendliness and I've never been...

We’ve just had Sunday lunch at the Crown pub. We received a very warm welcome and we were shown to a table and given menu sheets ( but not explained that we needed to order at the bar) I ordered the chicken when it arrived I ate some and it tasted bland and had a weird texture. Not pleasant. When I went to the bar to ask the staff about how the chicken had been cooked they said it had been cooked in a bath of water. I could not eat it due to the texture so they kindly offered to change it and so I ordered beef. However, when the beef came, I was very disappointed. It was very very fatty with lots of sinew not very nice beef we parcelled it up and took home for the dog. The Yorkshire puddings and the rest of the vegetables were okay. Now for afters we ordered desserts and were surprised when they came in cardboard tubs - Very novel maybe they had run out of dishes or maybe to save...

We had the most fantastic Sunday lunch here - everything was spot on from start to finish. The service was impeccable: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the roast pork with crackling and a side of stuffing, and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was the best I’ve had with a Sunday lunch. And the chocolate brownie for dessert was amazing! Proper comfort food, done really well. Can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a proper Sunday roast in a lovely pub setting!

Fantastic Sunday lunch! Very busy pub- glad we booked. Food was faultless and the prices very reasonable. Not sure if its a normal, everyday thing but you pay at the bar and they give you a vibrating flashing disc that tells you when your food is ready to collect from the serving hatch. The only table service is to clear away empties. The beef was melt in your mouth, and the cauliflower cheese was superb. Proper home cooked crispy roasties- just wow! Dessert was absolutely delicious! Can't recommend this place enough.

Lovely, busy pub with a great atmosphere. Fair prices and ridiculously good food. Service was friendly and prompt. Dogs and children made very welcome and well catered for...great to see child sized portions of good fresh food rather than deep fried battered stuff with beans! Attractive decor and beautiful pub garden. Really lovely lunch and would be back in a heartbeat.
