We've found our new favourite place to eat! We called ahead on a Monday evening to see if they could accommodate four adults, a baby and two dogs. When we arrived we were shown to our table and drinks promptly arrived. My wife cannot currently have dairy, soya and egg and eating out lately has been a bit tricky. Our waitress went to speak to the chef and returned with the menu, with ticks and amendments so we could clearly see what she could have (this included making a soup from scratch, and meant that she could choose from about 80% of the menu). We were very grateful that they were so accommodating. Service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly. The food was fab! Some excellently constructed, balanced and flavourful dishes on the Al a carte and some firm favourites on the 'Pub Classics' menu. We are already planning our return visit and we will be recommending The Dumb Post to anyone that asks.

Historic pub that you can see perched at the top of the hill if you approach from Calne, that has everything going for it and you only need to add good beer, food and staff... And they've done it! Haven't visited since before lockdown, but we really enjoyed our last minute decision to come for dinner and snagged one of the last tables available in the garden. Excellent Doombar beer, but a good selection of ale, ciders and cooking lagers too (oh and an impressive array of gin!). I went for 10oz sirloin cooked perfectly (for me, medium rare) with a choice of sides and I went for the delicious Mac, truffle and cheese with onion rings and my partner had the vegetable spaghetti. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful and we really enjoyed our time here as we watched the sun go down. Photos of steak meal and panorama of view to the valley, from sitting in the pub garden, beautiful. Recommended.

If you are in the area for a Sunday roast you have to go here! The meat and vegetables are all grown by local farmers so supporting Uk farmers which is amazing and you can see where your food came from. They also put on the back of the menu which farm the products came from which is an amazing detail and one of the reasons we keep on coming back. The food itself is the best roast I’ve ever had no matter if it’s the lamb, beef, pork or even the chicken roast. It also comes with a bowl of veggies on the side and the whole meal is a very generous portion that you want to strive to eat very last bite as it all tastes so good. The staff are always so kind and friendly and give it a lovely local feel even to those visiting. It’s a great pub as well for views over the rolling hills and inside is equally as charming.

First time for me visiting the Dumb Post Inn. Had a bit if a shock when I saw the cobbled stones out front and no wheelchair friendly way to get to the entrance except over the grass which was firm - but in winter that might not be an option - and then trying to go with the line of the cobbles a short distance to the door. Not an ideal start but the warm welcome helped negate that first impression.

Fabulous views but again sadly, we had to sit inside as no way down for a wheelchair to what looked like great terrace. It was a glorious day yesterday and that would have made it a five star review. The staff were very good indeed, helpful, patient and kind. Apparently the Inn is a listed building so theur ability to make alterations limited. In this day and age though I'm sure accessibility for all would be considered equally important by Planning.

The menu was not the one I'd seen online but it still had enough for my Dad and I to happily choose from. The calamari was well cooked - makes a nice change as often it can be rubbery at other venues. This was perfect. The wild mushrooms were OK, personally I would have liked some garlic with them and the bread a little less grilled/burnt but that's just me. The medium rare steak was cooked perfectly and the skinny fries with skins delicious too.

Definitely recommend the Dumb Post Inn but next time I'll go back with able bodied companions who can manage the steps to the terrace, or in winter when I'm sure the atmosphere inside will be warm and welcoming and assuming it's been cold enough for the grass area to be hard enough for pushing...

My daughter booked a table for me and my wife and her for a Father’s Day meal using the online system. We arrived to be told we would be sat outside. This was not in any of the confirmation details my daughter received and had not been requested. Due to it being Father’s Day there were no tables inside. The weather was cool, windy and cloudy. We had not brought jackets as we expected to be inside. My daughter had driven from Poole where she lives. Other than ā€˜sorry, there’s nothing I can do’ my wife had to prompt the manager to actually offer any type of compensation for this outrageously poor service! My daughter received a call from the landlady later that afternoon (after we’d had to go and buy food to cook!), and, after discussions, was informed that the three of us would receive a meal and a bottle of wine to make up for missing the Fathers Day meal but also myself and my wife would receive an additional meal for putting us out so much and having to go out and buy food to cook. We have received a voucher which barely cover a meal for two let alone a meal for 3 with a bottle of wine! What’s more, the expiry date on the voucher has already passed! It does not cover any fuel that would be needed for my daughter to drive back to Calne again from Poole and, in my opinion, does not make up for the dreadful service we received. This is the second time I have been badly let down by this pub and will not be bothering my time and effort to be let down again! Poor show, even with...

What an amazing Sunday lunch at a really special place. Our friends had previously visited for a lunchtime anniversary celebration and had said how good it had been so five of us decided to try the Sunday lunch. The food was excellent, by far and away the best roast we've had. Plenty of different meat and one vegetarian option on the roasts, plus other menu options. A lovely selection of vegetables as a side and we also ordered cauliflower cheese. All of the roasts came with a large Yorkshire pudding and the chicken had added stuffing. The meats were cooked to perfection and the gravy was very tasty too, the roasties were tasty and the red cabbage was divine. The service was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We asked if we could go and sit outside after our meal and that was no problem. It was a warm afternoon and the outside seating area is delightful with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside towards the Cherhill white horse. The price of the Sunday roast was pretty competitive and I considered it to be excellent value based on the flavour, quality and quantity. A cheeseboard was shared by two of our party and the sticky toffee pudding by another two. Again the quantities were excellent and they were both very tasty. It's a lovely relaxed way to spend a Sunday enjoying superb food and drink....
