Had a booking for dinner, made us wait to be seated for quite a while. After sat at reserved table, no menu no waiter came for nearly 10 min. When we came to the til, we were told that to order drink first at til even this shouldnt allow during covid. No ones seems follow the guidance, hence, the staff keeps serving people drinks at til, ignore customers who had table reserved for meal. After almost 30 min no food no order and no drink. I had to put myself in the queue at the bar, just want to grab the waiter for menu. To avoid anything negative happend for our dinner out....we decided to leave, and when we walked pass by the bar, still people queueing for drinks, no wonder table service customers are completely ignored and rudely kept unattended. We called up ahead (as we were warned it may be busy) and the staff went out of their way to be helpful and helped us get a table as it cleared up.
The food was great - recommend their pies in particular! The veg were roasted well and had great flavour too which was nice. The Eagles Head ale was also on tap and a great light ale to go with the meal.
Overall - the pub also had a nice cozy atmosphere, welcoming and warming decor. Despite its age and somewhat low ceilings, the pub still felt spacious and despite it being busy it did not feel crowded.
If you are camping or visiting the area this is a great stop to recharge after a long day out or a big day...
