Big adverts everywhere around Cotehele house that you can enjoy a proper Cornish cream tea here. However when we went to the tea room on a Friday morning at 11am they didn't have those famous splits nor did they have plain scones. That was very disappointing. Cream tea with fruit scones was enjoyable enough but it was odd that we had clotted cream from two different producers. Also we felt it was overpriced and strange that they don't have a set price for a cream tea. You pay separately for the scones, the tea, and the clotted cream/jam. There's definitely space to improve! Location and the inside of the café is absolutely gorgeous.

Lovely little Tea Room in an historic quayside. Hand written menu board gives an idea of what they provide, (Ignore the spelling mistake). The row of buildings were lime kilns with more kilns in the area. There is an Information Centre nearby. Devon is just over the river.

Excellent small tea room at Cotehele. Plenty of outside seating.

I usually enjoy my visit to the Edgcumbe cafe at Cotehele and arranged to treat a party of five friends to go there for lunch today. The first difficulty was that I was not able to reserve a table. OK so there was one table left on our arrival. One member is vegan whose only choice was the soup, but with bread, not with cheese scone. When I asked for bread to accompany the soup, I was blanked with 'Soup is served with a cheese scone' so I had to insist that my friend was a vegan and that was the only menu option available to her, and she wanted brown bread. On payment I received a blank stare and no courteous 'thank you' from the member of staff at the till. When the food arrived, my friend was asked if she could have white bread, although other guests received brown. It all felt very begrudging, and to top it all, my latte turned up as coffee with a jug of milk! What a shame as the food was tasty, if a...

Beautiful spot ideal for painting or walking the dog. I highly recommend the circular iwalk to Cawsand and Kingsand through the beautiful grounds. Look out for the deer, the daffodils, rhododendrons and the camelia collection. Walk up to the house via the Orangery and the formal gardens and visit the Stable small businesses. I love Helen Round's beautiful designs and her amazing on-line...
