Beautiful pub and restaurant in the lovely area of Portland. Phoned ahead to book a table for Carvery and were told we would be able to come at 3:15. Arrived at 3:05 and were asked to wait in beer garden, which was a lovely space. Ordered diet cokes all of which were very flat. We then went through to the dining room, which looked clean and bright. Unfortunately that is where the positives ended. We had to sit and wait for nearly an hour to go and get our food, by the time we were told we were allowed, all that remained was dry looking meat, not enough Yorkshire’s or roast potatoes for everyone in our party and an array of vegetables that looked as though they had been sat out for hours. The cabbage was brown and the green beans had lost all of their colour and were grey, I couldn’t put either on my plate. There were a lot of flys around the food counter. The chef/ owner (possibly) apologised for what was left after one of us asked if the food was being replenished and did charge us a discount at only £5 per head. We did appreciate the token of the food being discounted but to be honest had it not have been we would have probably been refusing to pay anyway. She blamed it on the fact that people had just eaten so much that day, however I got the impression they were looking after regulars first as certain tables were being brought out extra Yorkshire’s and even one table who went up for seconds before we were allowed to go and get our food. Seems a shame as we had checked the reviews before booking the table and they all seemed positive, So I am assuming we have caught them on a...
Read morelet's start with the drinks. They didn't have what I wanted, so they provided me with a suitable alternative to what I had ordered. the menu had a good selection of different foods to try, and I was looking forward to the king burger that I had ordered. Then came THE WAIT. 1 hour and 30 minutes of tummy rumbling and being told 'the food will be here shortly' and them offering a drink on the house, I finally received my food. It was strange because it came with not the onion rings that it said on the menu but a portion of low quality chips that weren't even mentioned beforehand, I asked what had happened to the onion rings and was presented with 3 uncooked depressed rings of onion. The burger seemed to be made out of ingredients bought from a corner shop, and the salad was lacking the basic parts (e.g, tomatoes). The reasoning we got given for such a poor experience was that they were busy even though only 3 of 7 tables were being used. In their defence, they had ONE member of staff missing, but why didn't they have any backup? In conclusion , I strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant...
Read moreVisited today and was very disappointed. Had chicken with red pepper and chorizo and mozzarella. Chicken was dry and tasteless had one slice of chorizo which was mostly the outside skin because of the way it was cut. I think it was a piece of leftover from the day before. Finished off with dried up cheese. Mum and dad had pie with veg and were told the veg was carrots broccoli and peas. What they got was a bowl of what was runny stew with a undercooked pastry top and overcooked red cabbage. Husband had the same 'stew' with undercooked pastry but he had peas and chips which were OK. To be fair brother and partner had ribs and whitebait which they enjoyed. Waitress asked if everything was OK and when we told her no and the reason why she just said Oh OK and went. I don't know why she bothered to ask. It was Dad's birthday so we were very disappointed. Won't be going back. Should have...
