Terrible. On the busiest day/night of the month table wasn't available even though we had booked over 3 weeks ago and rang up to confirm it. We were put in the bar side in an area that is in desperate need of a refurb. With blokes swearing at the football that was on. We wanted a lovely relaxing fathers day meal, but instead got a table right by the TV. Staff I have to say were fantastic and extremely apologetic about the mix up. These things happen so we just got on with the night. Food was dreadful. We were expecting Coach and Horses standards (as the food is always A1 there) however if it hadn't been fathers day we would have walked out and found somewhere else. My son had onion rings they looked like scratchings. The burger which we were charged a whopping £20.99 for which was called The Elephant burger was a joke! It was burnt and dry and ive seen better 99p burgers of the savers menu at macdonalds. The pigs in blankets were rock hard and dried up (we were credited for these) but any chef who knew what they were doing would not have let these come out. The only nice thing on my plate was the turkey. Mash was like slop, roasts were rock hard and 2 very small halves of a potato the veg tasted like it had been in washing up liquid. No one asked us how the food was. 2 plates had plenty of food left on them. So that should give you a clue. We didn't complain, so that's on us. Id already had to ask that they took a coke back as id asked for a bottled coke and she came back with coke off tap. When I queried it and said i wanted a bottle, she said they hadn't got any so I said am sorry i don't want this i asked for a bottle. She stomped off and came back with a bottle of coke (which they didnt have)and smacked it down on the table. Everyone looked round it was that loud. We then asked for sunday lunch menus to be told they didn't know where they were! So we couldnt have one. The staff looked under extreme pressure and like rabbits in headlights. We didn't want to add to this. We walk with our feet and unfortunately we won't be spending our money here again. Such a shame as The Coach and Horses is fantastic and we thought this would be ran the same. As we said most of the staff were very polite and helpful even though they just unfortunately...
Read moreReally doesn't even deserve one star. Visited as a group of 8, so plenty of custom to be had. We had some dietary requirements amongst the group (and the pub has a sign saying they will cater for this).. wow did we receive some major hostility. We ordered drinks and enquired about the vegetarian and gluten free options to very rudely have Dave come and tell us we had already agreed to the existing menu and couldn't have anything else. We then separately went to speak to Dave to see what would have been feasible to which he was extremely rude saying that he knew we would bring 'nonsense' and he 'hasn't got time for this' in a pub where only 3 tables were occupied. We showed him the menu on their own website (which is different) and he said this was wrong and we should 'know that'.
As you can imagine, we got up and very promptly left as we have never encountered such rude, confrontational and aggressive staff. As can be seen in other reviews, Dave has been extremely rude to other members of the public. We would have stayed and accommodated with the minimal options on the menu had the staff been polite. However, they made our intolerances and requirements seem an inconvenience and a problem. Would not recommend...
Read moreFood was really good, a bit pricey but it is worth it if you want good food and excellent service. Good choice me menu from burgers to complete "Sunday dinner" type meals. A bit strange when a cup of coffee outprices half a lager, or is that just me? I haven't been into the place for years, I think it closed down at one point. Bar area looked quite vibrant for a mid-week lunch time, whilst the food area was also relatively busy although pensioner prevalent. Definitely NOT a youth pub, but I am not young so was not put off by this. It covers a large area so needs to be constantly busy to turn a profit I would think, but it is situated on a busy main through road, and it looks like new houses are going up all around it so lots of new potential customers if the owners get the "pulling...
