We are a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 children. The pub is turning in to a rough establishment, from having seen the remnants of smashed glasses of a fight over the last month outside through to abuse from a far by the chef and then the aggressive nature of the male staff.
The pub has deteriorated significantly in all respects. We regularly go out for dinner with our children, but over the last 2 months it has spiralled into a significant decline in both food and service.
The quality of the meat (beef especially) is incredibly poor eg ribby / inedible as experience in our recent visit. The burgers are greasy. For some reason chips come out salted (heavily) and burger buns are hard and dry as though they have been left out. The quality of the entire menu is limited and then there is the service where the staff argue with you if you raise a complaint. They are incredibly rude if you say there is a problem and the tone of leadership is lacking from the general manager through to the staff. The ladies who work there are always nice but the guys for example our most recent visit, treat service as a drunken night out with the lads! le disrespectful/ argumentative and aggressive with our last visit where we complained.
Example I asked for a pint of orange juice and lemonade for my son and they brought a small glass (330ml) glass and then argued it was a pint. The food last time was shocking - for some reason they heavily salt the chips to the extent it is impossible to eat and the beef steak could not be cut or let alone eaten so we left it. So when we complained about a meal, they refused to accept it despite acknowledging it had not been eaten (one main course only). The manager argued and argued and then he went to speak to the chef who shouted from the kitchen "take it off and tell them not to come back!" Who knows what goes on there! The place needs leadership, a refurb, new management and staff and in my view does not deserve the historic legacy that was inherited. I asked for the contact details of the owner and the general manager said he runs the pub - he refused. It was an appalling experience. We will not return s unlikely and the âladdish managementâ are such any reputation you had is now at an all time low.

Read moreUnfortunately they must have been having a bad day. We were offered both the Sunday roast menu and the usual menu and when they came to take the order was told its only the Sunday roast so had to change our options. We were asked for our starters which we hadnt picked as they were on the other menu so went ahead with just had mains. 5 out of the 6 meals came out after about an hour. The vegan meal had a Yorkshire on it so that had to go back and they said they would replate and the gluten free had cauliflower cheese on which they said was gluten free. The vegans meals gravy was also questionable as to if it was actually vegan. We asked for more veg as the vegans plate was a little sparse being less a Yorkshire and cauliflower cheese. We also asked for more cauliflower cheese as what we were given was little more than a teaspoon in each plate. We were told no as the kitchen was too busy but then a small bowl of each came out. The 6th meal didn't turn up. We enquired as to where it was and was told it wasn't on the ticket but the waitress had read back the order. By this time there was no lamb left only beef or pork and our friend doesn't really like either and had gone past wanting to eat by then so just decided not to eat. My beef was horrendous very stringy which I reported to them. We did ask to speak to a manager but they weren't there. The staff did apologise and took 3 meals off the bill. To rub salt into the wound when we came out, other people were sat there with burgers off the other menu. It's a shame as our friends had to been there before and said their meals had been amazing from the main menu. The restaurant are aware of everything we encountered so its not a case of why didn't you say something at the time. Drinks are also...
Read moreSuch high hopes but a massive disappointment We visited today with high expectations of a riverside dining experience and initial first impressions were fabulous. Inside the pub is wonderful.
But from initially choosing an outside table we quickly changed to eat inside as blaring music and charging children running between the tables. We chose an interesting starter of crispy duck fries and were so disappointed to be presented with a bowl of soggy French fries and barely a teaspoon full of duck. Not worth the price or expectation. But never mind we thought as we were buoyed by the prospect of âPosh fish and chips" with monk fish and petite pois. What we were actually presented with were another oversized portion of french fries dominating the plate with just 3 finger sized pieces of monk fish scragg ends in a heavy, soggy and heavy batter. Along side this were a small portion of overcooked microwaved petite pois. Overcooked so much they had sunk in on themselves. Definately not worth the ÂŁ15 for the main course let alone what the starters cost. The manager seemed uninterested and we paid full price and left unsatisfied and incredibly disappointed. Luckily for them, the table of guests next to us saw our food and commented and left without ordering! In summary a lovely location but not good for food or customer service. We left and bought a second meal for the night at The Bell in Addington, with amazing food and silver service. Many clients travel from London to the Bell and we now wonât be trying...
