I'm hoping we just had an off-day at the farmers lowick as I can see it's a great community hub and has solid reviews. However, we had a few issues when we visited for Sunday lunch recently. 1. We arrived and ordered drinks. My husband's beer was completely flat and my orange cordial had bits floating in it. 2. We ordered the Sunday roast; roast lamb for husband and beetroot and celeriac confit with "all the trimmings" for me. The meals we received weren't great and were swimming in watery, flavourless gravy. The beetroot celeriac confit was just a very small slice of beetroot and celeriac. At £16, I felt quite short changed as essentially my small plate of food (pictured) was just a few soggy bits of veg swimming in tasteless gravy. The Yorkshire pudding would've been decent but it soaked up all of the liquid and had a black hair running through it (which I only found when I'd eaten half of it) 3. For our toddler, we ordered sausage and chips from the kids menu. There were only a couple of options. This came out around 10 minutes after our mains and was so hot, it seemed they'd only deep fried it after delivering the two roasts. Her meal when it arrived was a pile of chips and a small piece of sausage with no veg or salad 4. It seemed like they were understaffed. The lady working on the bar was lovely, but when another beer went off she commented that she was on her own and didn't know how to change a barrel. All in all, not cheap and not particularly good unfortunately. Hopefully it was just a rough service this time around.

Brilliant pub. Convivial atmosphere. Excellent food. Caters for all tastes but what interested us, as veggies, was their bold and imaginative use of seasonal and locally produced veg. We were intrigued by the three course meal, with Swede in each course. I mean, we had to try that. It was fabulous! From swede tempura to candied swede and ricotta cappelleti in a Jerusalem artichoke sauce, and finally parsnip ice cream with swede biscotti. We also had the celeriac and artichoke soup and winter veg cobbler. Bravo, chef! It was creative and beautifully cooked and more importantly, delicious! In a desert of pubs serving 'safe' but vacuous veggie food, (there is more to life than mushroom risotto!) this is an oasis of unique and imaginative dishes. I want to go out and eat food that is like nothing I've had before. Well, you've come to the right place here. Yes, there are plenty of super tasty 'conventional' options too, but try something a bit different and you won't be disappointed! I could go on about the friendly staff, the cosy fire, the Jukebox and the excellent range of beers too!...but you can experience that yourselves. Thank you. We loved it!

Fabulous!!! We had 2 lovely experiences here, the first when exploring for a place for dinner, the warmest welcome and we were able to book a table. We met the chef, lovely guy, he promised to look after us when we came back and was true to his word. I love the fact the carpark is level and easy to park in. My mother in law had no trouble navigating the disabled ramp to get in. The service and welcome was excellent, great wine and good choice of different soft drinks for the driver. The food was delicious, and definitely fresh home cooked and an original menu - the vegetable stew was terrific. Nice small menu as you can see from the picture and super fresh hence running out of some things due to a large crowd in after a talk in the back room. The honesty shop is a lovely and terrific to be using your own pottery to serve your meals. I cannot recommend the community pub highly enough, they've put in so much work but created a wonderful place to be, and no doubt stay. I need more than 5 stars for this one!

STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! Shocking behaviour from staff.

On 06/09/18 my partner and I visited the Farmers Arms at Spark Bridge (Lowick Green) for dinner. We ate our starters, then received the main course, unfortunately the food was inedible. The mushroom stroganoff looked like a brown mound of stodge and both mine and my partners meal were so over seasoned with pepper and herbs it was disgusting. After not even two mouthfuls we left the meals and asked to see the manager No manager arrived, but the chef came to our table and asked if there was an issue. We advised that the food was inedible. The chef was clearly angry and spilt some of the food on the table as he tore the plates away. We did not receive an apology or the offer of another meal. We decided to leave and went to settle the bill. We were advised that we could have a 10% discount and the bill would be £53. We agreed to pay for the drinks we had had and the starters that we had eaten but we refused to pay for the main courses that we had hardly touched. The landlady/bar manager advised there was nothing wrong with the food and refused to reduce the bill further. We advised that we would not pay it and she threatened to call the police which we were happy with as we felt we were not being unreasonable. The landlady called the police in front of us and said “they are going to be an hour so you will have to wait and do not think I will be serving you drinks.'

We put £25 on the bar and tried to leave. The land lady threw the money on the floor and advised she would follow us to our car and take our registration number. Again, we agreed as we had nothing to hide. My partner put the money back on the bar and followed us out to the car park. During the conversation about the bill and the walk to the car the Land lady was very abusive and aggressive toward me and speaking very threatening about 3 inches from my face. She was saying that my actions were all caught on CCTV and it would be our word against hers. When we got to the car park the land lady stood behind the car to take the registration number, she then would not move so we could reverse to leave. She then shouted 'come on then, run me over'. Next the 'chef' came out and they have a conversation then we heard 4-6 metallic sounding hits to both rear tyres and the chef ran off down the side of the pub. I opened the door and the rear tyre had been punctured deflating within seconds. The landlady/bar manager was laughing saying 'oh dear you have a puncture, you are going nowhere’. At this point I became very frightened. I closed the door to call the police. As I get through to the 999 operator the car door flies open and again the land lady is swearing at us and giving us both serious verbal abuse. Realising that we were not bluffing (as she was when she 'called' the police we found out later) and had actually called the police she returned very quickly into the pub.

The police arrived within 15-20 minutes. They talked to us briefly, examined the car then went inside to talk to the chef and the landlady. Apparently, the chef had left for the day so 2 officers headed to his home address and the other remained to take our statements. My partner was informed by the Officer that the landlady was not sure how it escalated so quickly and was now sorry which he found very implausible.

As my car does not carry a spare and the puncture repair kit would not work on a slashed tyre, we were forced to be recovered to our cottage which after all the interviews was not until 11.30 at night. We were advised to call the AA again the next day when we would be taken to get a replacement tyre.

Now we must wait to find out if the police will be prosecuting the chef or not. Whether this goes to court is purely up to them.

This was a very upsetting and stressful end to...

It's not often I write a review but I feel I should, so the member of staff learns customer service. If been for a walk in conniston for my dad's birthday, was looking via Google maps for a pub that serves food. This pub showed it served between 12-8pm. Parked up, the sign outside said 12-8pm. Winner, looking forward to some pub grub. We asked the friendly girl behind the bar if they serve food she said that they weren't serving until 5, my dad said that the sign outside said it was 12-8pm to which someone from the other side of the bar shouted through, the chef is on a break because he is working 12 hours. This rude person didn't come through to see us like good service, just shouted. So we promptly left. Went down to the Royal Oak, 1 minute drive down the road. They weren't serving until 5pm... but they SERVED us. They were fantastic... This pub was rubbish!!

Thanks for your reply, I didn't immediately get the impression of you being humorous, though it is difficult to gauge your humour when I could not see you. Completely understand the chefs need for a break on a 12 hour shift, fair enough. And in terms of your updated Google food serving times, you might also want to change your signage next to the main entrance which clearly stated a 12-8pm food service. I love the Lakes, and enjoy visiting a pub after, I'm sure yours is very good as it did look so, I hope you can iron out these points to give others that top...
