Went for Roast dinner, but very dissapointed. Hot plates with luke warm food. Beef was tough and burned flavour. Potatoes were soft and tasted of cheap veg oil. Also veg were all bland, under seaoned. Paid extra for cauliflower cheese which came as a half filled ramekin, again luke warm. Lovely looking pub and warm atmosphere. Certainly need some work on the food. Service was OK. So I will add more then, if you can't take an honest review and then try to personally belittle me. That's just very rude.. My failures as a chefđ what are you talking about? No I don't know your chef and why would I be jealous of someone who can't cook as well as me.. If you can't take constructive criticism then don't bother... I find your response highly personally offensive, but I also know it's based on your insecurities, not mine. I definately will not be returning anyway. Your food is not good. Thanks anyway. Right then. You are totally embarrassing yourselves now. You do realise that it is actually illegal to try to personally attack and patronise somebody. You know very little about my life. I and certainly am not a bum and I don't live in a caravan. I used one to store something on a piece of land which I manage. You are clearly trying to attack me on a personal level because you simply will not accept a negative review. You simply have no right to treat me this way. I DO NOT KNOW WHO YOUR CHEF Is! But it is clear to me that they are in fact very emotionally unstable. I am very strongly minded, certainly having been through all of the tribulations that I have. Including that caravan and most of my life possessions being swept away in a forest fire recently. If you actually want to know about my life you may simply like to ask me instead of making up a false story and trying to defend something that you can't.. I have grown up, I choose to grow everyday, and I will never let someone's narcissism override my true loving intensions. You have only continued to prove your preditory mindset. So you can ask your lawyers about what you are doing responding to honest reviews with personal attacks. You have absolutely no chance or right to try to crush my spirit, I just won't work. I don't need to hide my identity but your response gives me no choice but legal action now. You have really no idea what you are doing to yourselves đ€Ł would you actually like to know just how much experience I have. Would you like to see my CV and personal acheivements, I think you would be surprised. I'm so strong that your attempts to belittle me, and you really are trying to hurt me, will bounce back with magnification. I know I have done nothing wrong, a simple review of some dissapointing food, your response is kind of shocking. Just to remind you, again, that publicly attacking me is leading to your...
Read moreBeautiful old world thatched inn. We called in on spec yesterday for lunch, and it was surprisingly busy for a mid-week winter lunch time in the middle of nowhere. We were celebrating a little windfall, and we couldnât have picked a better place. We stuck to the 'Taste of Exmoor' set menu which was ÂŁ25 for three courses. This was not just lunch in a pub. Every course was full of delightful flavours, and beautifully presented. The pig's cheek starter was so tender, and surrounded by all sorts of other interesting tastes. My partner had the fishcake which was garnished with, amongst other things, some little red, balsamic pearls - amazing. I had the sea bass which was beautifully cooked and went surprisingly well with the Bombay potatoes. My partner had the crispy lamb and mint terrine, which tasted like a superb deconstructed lamb roast dinner. We shared a lemon posset to finish off, beautifully creamy and flavourful, served in a champagne coupe. All washed down with Timothy Taylorâs Landlord â my cup runneth over! The service was first rate; friendly but professional. We were lucky enough to see two new dishes which chef Ben Routley had been perfecting, when he brought them out to be photographed. Works of art!! There are lots of seats outside, which looked as though they would be very inviting when we get some warmer weather. The Farmerâs Arms is just off the A358 between Taunton and Minehead, quite close to the road, but far enough away for it to feel very hidden and special. Itâs a route we travel a lot, so weâll be back, no doubt about it. (My only reservation is the tone of the booking conditions. The website is downright authoritarian about cancellation policy. I understand that they canât afford to have âno-showâ bookings, and every place counts, so people need to respect the reservations theyâve made, cancel in plenty of time, and turn up on time. But I think the rules could have been written a little less...
Read moreI only give a three for the food because on the whole it was good but a couple of the pizzas were either burned or had too much cheese on. The atmosphere was neither here not there as we were tucked up away on the second floor and had no other guests around us, but a lot of staff movement. However, this is a pub that actively supports stag hunting and has multiple stag heads and antlers on display as well as other stuffed animals and images of hunting and driven shoots. This was not at all to our taste. The service would have got less than one if it hadnât been for the friendly nature of one of the bar staff. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with service. We were a group of twelve and were asked to preorder our food which made a lot of sense. We also had an early sitting (at opening time) which should have enabled the kitchen to focus on us and not be running behind on other orders. Sadly the preordering did not work and the service of our food was chaos. Main meals were served across the space of a whole half hour - the first dishes were cold by the time the last ones arrived. That is not including the third pizza which arrived one hour later than the others. The excuses that were given about this last pizza made a mockery of the fact that the pub has a whole pizza menu and there could easily have been a huge number of them ordered across the lunch time service. Furthermore, the two lamb dishes were served as beef and it was only once they had been started that we were told of this mistake. We will not be returning or recommending The Farmers Arms,...
