Service was a little slow once we had eaten our mains. We had to ask for dessert menu as it was not offered and then I had to find a member of staff to order our dessert. We were not offered another drink after our first, even though we had all finished during our main course. We would have ordered another had we been asked early but once we had finished our mains and were waiting for dessert menu, we saw no point and just wanted to finish and go. The food was very average. My wife had Steak and ale pie, she said the pie was good but the sides not so good, she just left them as they were tasteless. My mum had the roast beef dinner, her feedback was similar, the beef was ok, if anything a little overcooked but the sides were not good. My daughter had the cheeseburger which she enjoyed. I had the Chicken burger with loaded fries. The fries were good but the burger I thought was a bit mediocre. We visit a lot of the old Individual inns and since the Robinsons takeover, we have been very disappointed. The only one that seems to be worth going to now is the Tempest Arms. The Spread Eagle at Sawley was my regular, not just for food but mainly for an after work pint most days as I pass on my way home. I don't really go in there any more as it seems to have lost its way a little since Greig and Natalie left, I've hear poor comments about the food there also. The Craven Heifer in Kelbrook was another favorite but again, we didn't enjoy our last experience there either. We used to love the Fountaines Inn and have eaten there and also stayed over a lot over the years but we won't be rushing back anytime soon. Its a shame as my wife and I used to stop over regularly as it was where we had our minimoon after our wedding ten years ago this time. Hopefully Robinsons turn them around and get these pubs back to how they used to be when Individual...
Read moreThe Fountaine is in a beautiful location, the pub is very quaint with lots of walkers & dogs. We visited on a very wet day and there was a huge smell of wet dog which is to be expected as the pub is dog friendly! Service at the bar was great, we checked in very easily and were escorted to the entrance of the building where our room was ‘Alms view’. The room was very basic for the cost to say the least. It was clean as was the linen, but nowhere to place our cases, a single wardrobe that had a large fan within, the dressing table had the tea tray, kettle, coffee machine, pods , bags sugar etc& a lamp so limited space for anything else. The en-suite was tiny, soap & shampoo half used, tissue box on wall empty, shower was tiny so once my husband was in the shower he couldn’t move. Please check behind the bathroom door as there are historic cobwebs that require attention! The bedside cabinet hadn’t been checked during cleaning as there were underpants, socks & a phone charger ( not ours) left in the drawer. Bed was comfy and slept well with the window open as the room was hot. In all honesty the room felt more like a cell so this was disappointing for the price £148.75 which inc a 15% discount. We had an evening meal that was very nice, the service was very good. Breakfast was nice but had a snotty poached egg, again service was very good. Would certainly visit the pub again but wouldn’t stay as in our opinion it wasn’t...
Read moreHighly disappointing. My friend and I stayed up in the Dales for a few days for Yarndale fibre festival in September 2021, and after a lot of research we decided to come here on Sunday at 5.30 pm for a roast dinner. We booked it a day or so in advance and were really looking forward to it. When we arrived we saw we'd been put in the corner of the bar area on a low table that wasn't clean. We were not served wine at our table – we had to go and get it ourselves from the bar! The barman didn't have enough in the bottle so gave us short measures but still charged the same amount. We asked to move into the main restaurant and luckily there was a table for us. We got settled in, only to be told after we'd been there a while that the kitchen had run out of roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings. The only reason we went there was for the roast! We decided to leave and went to Grassington instead and manage to get into a wonderful hotel/restaurant where the service , food, place settings and cleanliness were more what we would expect. We were surprised at the good reviews this place gets as we didn't find the service very good, the environs were pretty scruffy and the menu was a stained crumpled piece of...
