The 5 stars in my last review of this pub drop to 3. The Fox and Hounds has lots of excellent features. It serves Old Rosie cider, has a garden with views over the sea to Whitby, has a charming interior which seems barely changed since the 1950's, and is a very pleasant walk along the lane from the bus stop. However all that is spoiled by inflicting loud music upon customers even in the garden. After a walk from Lythe we called in for drinks and sat in the garden in the sun with the view - but instead of the quiet of the countryside, we had muzac blared at us from an outside loudspeaker so loud that even going to the far end of the garden made no difference. This made what should have been a pleasant interlude so unpleasant that instead of the two pints intended, we drank up the first...

Lovely little pub with superb views over the coastline and towards Whitby Abbey. Dog friendly in the bar and they serve good ale which is very well kept. There's a nice selection of soft drinks for those who need to drive, including pineapple juice, which seems to be a rarity these days! Parking is across the road and there's plenty of space. Home made food and gluten free and vegetarian options. The family are very friendly and welcoming and we will go back again. There's also plenty of space to sit in the pub garden and enjoy the lovely views. Well worth a visit and excellent...

It's a lovely, quiet, atmospheric, and intimate old-style pub. It's tucked out of the way, off the beaten track. Popular for walkers, but there's also a decent sized car park too.

On our latest visit we sat out in the garden, which had plenty of benches and is beautifully looked after. It is a perfect spot for a quiet break, and several small groups of walkers had stopped en route to/from Whitby.

The staff are extremely friendly, the prices are decent, and it was a perfect spot for a quiet pint (shandy, I was driving).

We will definitely be stopping by again. Next time we will...

Well situated for a detour from the cliff top path between Sandsend and Runswick Bay. Also a great cycle stop with cycle rack in the beer garden - so bonus points for that. Great little garden sheltered by low hedges but still afford views back towards Lythe and Sandsend. Beer was Timothy Taylor when we were there but their pale ale is a decent pint so enjoyed that. Staff very attentive and good food as well - so plenty of reasons to divert from the path.

Such a wonderful country pub, we arrived at 12 noon, greeted with a smile. Food was absolutely amazing, we went for scampi and chips. Glad we did as it was very tasty and delivered extremely quickly. It’s was a lovely day so we made good use of the beautiful beer garden. The inside was really nice and extremely clean. We fell upon this magical place just by chance and glad we did. We will come again when we’re visiting Whitby.

Really great pub. Popped in for a pint and something to eat whilst walking in the area. Pub's a little off the beaten track but well worth the detour. Chicken parmo was ace. Veggie options available. Very dog friendly. A lovely open fire (most welcome sight in December) Had a lovely pint of Boltmaker.
