A tad confusing on arrival. A large inn with both indoor and outdoor seating. Vast majority of people were dining. We'd booked a table 2 weeks ago. Fully expected upon arrival to see some obvious station whereupon you could announce your arrival and be checked in, seated and orders taken. There was non. Approaching the bar no one seemed to notice or engage with us. We were eventually dealt with but we felt a little overlooked. The place was a hive of activity and unusually (in a good way) there was ample waiting staff to deal with all the customers. We only had a bottle of wine, which was reasonably priced and the beef Sunday dinner. Generous slices of beef and ample gravy. The roast potatoes were a bit salty and I thought slightly undercooked. The vegetables were well presented and cooked just right although a few more wouldn't have gone a miss. Lovely yorkshire pudding. The dessert menu was uninspiring. The stand out dish in our opinion was good old sticky toffee pudding which got taken off. The inn itself had an interesting interior and decor and was very relaxing.

Wouldn't go again. Ordered the 'roast pork with all the trimmings' special. What I was served was NOT roast pork, it was instead pork loin steaks which were tough. I wouldn't have ordered it if It had been 'pork loin steaks' on the specials board. The red cabbage was over re-heated, it was all clumped and stuck together in the middle and was sickly sweet like it was jam. The roast potatoes were hard in the middle. The sausage stuffing ball was deep fried in batter so didn't eat it. The carrots, broccoli and Yorkshire pudding were nice. My husband had the venison burger. He said the chips and onion rings were nice but the burger wasnt great. Poor service - we both wanted another drink and wanted to see the dessert and coffee menu, but wasnt asked and got fed up of waiting. Even my husband commented that he wouldn't go back as the food wasnt great and the service was poor, and that's not like him at all. Looks god, but doesn't live up to expectations.

Set in the rolling hills of the Yorkshire moors, this is a quiet campsite, well maintained and great for touring the local area. We slept well as it was so peaceful. No-one bothered us and it gave us some much needed rest. The old inn itself, was busy but quietly and efficiently run. We just sat and watched the world go by. The staff at the pub couldn’t do enough and the Sunday roast was absolutely fabulous- I went for the beef; tender and served with steaming hot veg, a huge Yorkshire pudding, crispy roast potatoes and lashings of tasty gravy. My husband plumped for the lamb shank with veg, new potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding- beautiful 👌 If you aren’t there over a weekend, the local ham, egg, homemade chips and onion rings was also ❤️ And, if you like homemade meringues… We are already planning to return. Well done to all at the Fox and Rabbit and thank you for a wonderful stay- see you again soon. Jo & Pete

We have always been big customers of Fox and rabbit for several years however I cannot recommend this place because the staff are completely rude towards us, passive aggressive and speak about us towards other staff members and other cooks. What shocked me the most about this pub is that we are so kind to the servers and we always leave large tips for them to enjoy. And they still make us feel extremely unwelcome, as if we have done something wrong towards them.

What I do not understand about Fox and Rabbit Is that we are so generous and we are so kind to the staff and all we get back is awkwardness, and talk behind our backs, as customers!!

The Liverpool lady who serve people and the young students who work at the pub as servers do not want to be there and they do not care for customers. This has been displayed through the actions towards ourselves and I think it’s absolutely shocking.

The Fox and Rabbit is a terrible pub and I cannot recommend anybody to go there unless you want to feel unwelcome and undeserving. It may not feel like this on the first occasion but as soon as the staff get used to you, they will abuse you. I think it’s absolutely unacceptable for a business to be treating its customers to such a disgusting standard.

The staff are ignorant, rude and they make you feel unwelcome, and they will even go so far to laugh at your face when you walk into the pub and pretend like you don’t exist and make you wait 10 minutes to be seen with their back towards you.

DO NOT...

First of all I rang up at 4pm to ask what time food was being served. A women replied 5pm, at which I replied great I'll make my way now then. The women rudely replied it isn't 5pm yet! So I said it's fine we can have a drink and wait. To which she replied they are quite busy how many will it be for? So I said it's only for two. Alarm bells started ringing then and I mentioned this to my partner but struggled it of. We got there and ordered our drinks at around 1630 at which the women brought over our menus at 1700. I ordered a steak and asked for it medium but not to bloody. Then the waitress went up to the chef at the bar told him what I had asked for and wished him good luck!! I could not believe my ears at how unprofessional the waitress was! To make it worse she was in her 60s and should have known better! Also I was told on the phone they were busy and there were only two other couples in the pub. I even checked the reviews after I had spoken to her on the phone, which put my mind at ease till I met the waitress. I can honestly say stay clear. The meals weren't even worth the money. I think the older women with blonde hair needs to go on some customer...

The staff at this pub have a terrible attitude and as a customer you are treated with utter contempt and as a absolute nuisance when trying to order food, book a table, order a drink or simply just ask for help. They also never seem to answer the phone! Don’t waste your time dropping by here, there are plenty of other good pubs around. The staff here are an absolute disgrace, the main culprit for her rudeness every time we have visited this pub is the older head waitress who sounds like she’s got a Liverpudlian accent, this woman’s attitude is consistently bad. It’s a shame as it’s a fairly nice looking pub in a good location, if it wasn’t for this however I think the business run by these people would go down the tubes extremely quickly.

I hope the owner Charlie reads this as it’s your business mate they are ruining for you.

The staff simply don’t want work and turn good paying customers away on a regular and daily basis!

After reading the other reviews on here, it seems many other people have had a mirror image experience as my wife and I. Who knows how many others have had the same experience but cannot be bothered to...
