We went here last night after a recommendation from the camp site we were staying at. We were really disappointed. The service was good but the decor is dated, the furniture all sticky (maybe due to anti-bac?) and the food wasn't good at all. The children had fish and chips but struggled to bite through the overcooked batter, I had a pie with soggy pastry and over cooked veggies, the father in law had ham, egg and chips which he left more than half of and my other half had a burger which he described as "ok I guess but let's not come back". The cheesecake was good but the Bakewell Tart was weird: served hot and covered in icing with WAY too much jam oozing all over the place. It cost the best part of £80 which we felt was way overpriced for what we got. We went to another pub in the area the night before which was absolutely brilliant food for about the same price. It's a shame as the pub is in a great spot with a good sized garden and a trim trail and bouldering wall for children. We won't be...
Read moreGreat pub, friendly attentive staff and excellent pub food. I hate walking into a pub and being ignored while staff get on with other things which happens all too often these days. None of that here, the barmaid was serving someone else but immediately said she'd be with us on a minute then a moment later the landlord returning from clearing a table came straight over to serve us.
The pub itself is a good size and even though it was busy it didn't feel crowded.
A good selection of beers and I went for an IPA I've not seen before. Again, the landlord was knowledgeable about his beers and offered useful advice. We ordered some food, I chose the burger & my friend ham egg & chips. It appeared quickly and was really very good for the money. The burger was properly cooked, very tasty and the chips & salad good. The ham was home cooked and generously sliced, no packet fare here, and the eggs were just right.
Definite recommend, we'll go...
Read moreStaff nice, nice garden, pleasant. Let down by the food. £50 gets you i pint of cider half pint larger, peas undercooked and definitely from a freezer bag, 2 x chips also freezer bag, scampi again from the freezer as we're 2 portions of onion rings. 2 halves of cheap tasteless tomato's and a sirloin steak medium rare almost impossible to eat so chewy, suggests the cheapest cut they could find. Extremely disappointing even the measly two sachets of sause were cheap vinegary options no heinz here, always a sign of someone cutting costs to maximise profits. Needless to say we won't return despite the warm welcome. I know the trade is difficult these days but no excuse to rip people off. I'd rather pay a bit more and get quality than pay almost as much and get cheap...
