If we could give 0 stars, we would. Don't brush over the bad reviews on TripAdvisor or anywhere thinking they are not true or relevant. They really are. After asking twice at the bar to order, finally as we were packing up to leave someone came to take ours, 35 minutes after arriving. The staff were too busy re setting empty tables and cleaning tables to take new orders despite most the tables being unoccupied at this point! No one apologised or even smiled. The customer service leaves alot to be desired as the other reviews state across forums. We reluctantly ordered with two very hungry children. The food - what is going on in the kitchen? The roast was dry and bland, the fish tasted like old oil which it was obviously cooked in reused oil and burnt chips, tasteless mushy peas. Just terrible and we couldnt wait to leave. What a shame! This could be a goldmine with the correct...

Living in the village and being a local to The Fox I have, until very recently, taken for granted the fantastic overall service they provide. Often I enjoy the friendly company of the bar staff who are all fantastic, loving & caring to all your needs. But now and long overdue me, my fiance and children decided to dive in the deep end (and with which praying our children wouldn't cause chaos) Dined out. There was however no worries needed..... all staff were professional and courteous, great with the children and the food was exquisite. Me and my fiance chose the salmon on the menu presently, of which the combination of flavours and textures really awakened me to some healthy grains and greens id usually avoid. The chef made all work really well. Genuinely impressed....

We had Sunday lunch here as a party of 4 adults and 4 children. I booked this after seeing good reviews and so felt it was a good choice while visiting the area.

The food was really not great, tough meat, watery gravy, the roast potatoes seemed like they were precooked the day before and for £14.50 you can find so much better for that price for modern, fresh and local food. The dining area also resembles an old people's home, it's so stale and stuffy.

The restaurant had 1 highchair, they need to buy more, there were no baby changing facilities so babies had to be changed outside in the cold.

Some members of staff were very nice though as they were just doing their job.

Furthermore unless you are 70 plus in...

I love this place. Booked a table for Sunday lunch on our way home after visiting family graves. Always feel down but this pub, busy and buzzing lifts one's spirits. A lively warm welcome and the young gentleman who served us was bustling friendly and hardworking. He never stopped! He and young lady worked flat out the entire time. They were a joy. A great addition to the pub staff. The food as always though a tad pricey was stunning to look at and very tasty. Potato falafels roast pork and beef with all the trimmings and smoked haddock fishcake. A delicious chardonnay cold and crisp and a Mackeson zero. Lots of food and no room for desserts that looked delicious as always. Thank you all.

Lovely friendly country pub just a few minutes drive from Rutland Water. They had 4 cask ales on offer from the surrounding area, which were in very good condition. We stopped off for Sunday lunch, which was very good; I had the roast and my wife scampi (make sure you leave room for dessert!). I'd recommend booking as it was busy - this can be done by phoning or filling out a form on their website. There's a reasonable amount of parking at the back of the pub, with a couple of spaces at the front. We'll definitely be eating there again when next visiting Rutland.
