I wanted to really love this place! The staff were friendly, the decor was 10/10, the vibe was positive and everything indicated that it would serve up a proper pub experience. The staff forgot about us a couple of times, notably when we asked for sauces, sugar for the coffees, and table water. They were probably just a bit busy, maybe? The nut roast option was below par - it wasn’t really a nut roast, it was more like mashed sweet potato topped with sprinkled nuts etc. It had no bite or texture, and not much flavour. It might be considered an interesting ‘twist’ on a classic, but was a bit disappointing when we were just looking for something familiar. The arancini were very delicious, and the real ale selection was vast! If I were back in the area again, I would probably return but not on a Sunday.

Initially we got to the pub and it was busy with plenty of parking available. The pub itself is beautifully designed as per the B&P estate. Food - was excellent across the board with no issues here and we got our meals quickly. Drinks - came after our starters. Service was slow on this part. Also the waiter granted apologised the drinks order did not go through due to technical issues and they offered us a 2nd round for free. When we queried this they told us they said this in error. The pub should have honoured this based on the fact we ordered on this basis. Overall 8/10 we would visit again. The pub should also have a host stand like the rest of the estate as we found we had to wait a while at the bar to establish we had a booking.

This is an excellent venue, for quality food with attentive staff. Well worth a visit, family friendly too! 21st Oct 2019 have to update this review, just had white onion and cider soup with a 'healthy' hunk of bread and buppie. Couldn't resist ordering the warm crispy beef salad with sweet chilli dressing and cashew nuts, bloody glad I ordered that. So after that culinary experience I had to go all in and got me hands on a choccie brownie like you wouldn't believe cheeky strawberry and chocolate sauce plus custard. Two pints of Guinness ( might have to have another) by an open fire, oh the smell of it is wonderful. OMG I'm ready to die and go to heaven, hang on let me get that Guinness then I'm good to go. Thanks

Previously i would have rated the Fox 5 star, and it must be said we have had many a fantastic meal here, however our most recent visit was very disappointing.

They weren't busy, there were plenty of tables available both inside and out, we had booked a table in advance tho. Once seated we waited a long time to be served, and the food took an age to arrive. The Steak was tough and inedible, the Onion Bhajis were so iver cooked they were verging on burnt.

The Special Sauages were grainy and over seasoned making them very unpleasant to eat, they used the same sausages on the Kids Sausage and Mash, which came in a size suitable for an adult, and while you could say that was great value, it just was too much for a 5 year old and she left most of it and didnt like the overly seasoned sausage. A standard pork sausage would have been much better for a childs menu, and one instead of 2 large ones would be sufficient.

In fairness they did ask how we found the meal and when we explained they apologised and removed 2 meals from the bill, but it certainly has put us off going again any time soon. That said the setting is fantastic, the large garden is great for kids to run off energy and the building itself is lovely and immaculately clean, with a good selection of well kept beers.

This area has lots of great places to eat and many where our recent experience has been much better and considerably cheaper. Hopefully this was just an off day for them but it may be while before...

My wife and I visited The Fox on the evening of Thursday 31 August 2023 for our latest visit .

We have visited The Fox for many years and found it can vary greatly depending upon the management at the time. This time we were very pleased with the fantastic level of service provided by Laura . We had phoned on the 'off chance' for an evening meal . Laura , who answered the phone , listened carefully as we explained about my wife's ' disability and said that she would sort out the space we needed.

The car park is flat with large tarmac car park to the left of the building which has a second large area to the rear of this behind a hedge. About 12 spaces are also available directly in front of the Fox, The whole car park is level and the main door is wide with toilets directly to the left as you enter the building including a spacious disabled toilet .

On arrival Laura had reserved a table with plenty of space for the 'wheeled walker' and my 6ft 3 inch height . She was attentive and despite being very busy and Laura working flat out she did have time to make sure all was well,

The food was better than our last visit. I had a nice Pork , Boar and Apple Pie which was slight over cooked with a very hard crust but my wife had a lovely Fillet Steak. The usual real ale selection of about 7 real ales was available , I drank a half of Timothy Taylors Boltmaker which was OK but could be better . No dark real ales were available so my wife...

Dropped in on a lovely sunny Thursday afternoon. The garden was a delight with lots of seating both in the shade and sunshine. It seemed staff were covering the outside space but I collected menus and ordered at the bar.

The food selection for the summer is a delight in each section, with a number of items we would all have readily ordered. Deciding between the mouth watering options was a task. The drink selection of wine, spirits and beer is also one of the best I’ve encountered in a pub setting.

The service was varied. Chap at the bar was top notch, although table service was a bit out of kilter. The waitress presented the trout and mouse starter and interrupted to ask if we wanted cutlery. My fork disappeared on collection but was not replaced. The starters came in good time but we felt the need to check in on the mains before they arrived, despite it then being 3:00 pm, with no other evident food being served to other tables.

The food was good, well presented and an excellent combination of flavours on eat plate. Sadly, the belly pork was served in one large piece, and the fat was largely un-crisped, which for such a place is a bit of a cardinal sin.

Coffee is well chosen and made; the small sweat thing on the side is brilliant!

We had a lovely afternoon overall and will be back. Overall, the fox is a gem of an option for...
