A mixed experience but slightly more disappointed. Me and my partner were looking forward to a relaxing couple of nights away which turned out to be quite stressful and a few niggles just spoilt the experience slightly. Upon arrival, we were given our room keys to be checked into the wrong room. After waiting for the manager to check the situation for around 10 minutes whilst my partner was upstairs and to see if the room was clean, we gathered our luggage from upstairs and moved rooms. I appreciate that the situation was rectified but we had a long journey and were just looking forward to relaxing.
Following this, we were hoping to use the spa facilities for the evening, but we were informed that the facilities were closing at 6pm. I purposely booked the hotel for the use of the spa facilities on arrival so was a little disappointed that we didn’t have access. We were however allowed to use the facilities the next day, but it was just something that ruined the evening slightly as we were both hoping to use the spa for our night away.
Finally, upon checking out at 9:35-40, we were hoping to have breakfast to be told that the kitchen closed at 9:30 and breakfast had all been put away. On one occasion a couple of weeks ago I spoke to someone via booking.com/messenger that breakfast was served until 10, and when checking in we were also told 10. The lady behind the bar kindly offered us toast, however we felt a little disappointed by that response as we had paid for breakfast and been told the incorrect time. After going to the kitchen, they gave us the okay to have breakfast, but we just felt an inconvenience and it was just another niggle that made things more stressful. We also waited for someone to take our order for a while (as we didn’t want to flag anyone) until we decided to politely ask someone if we could order.
I appreciate that all situations tried to be resolved in some way, but it just didn’t feel up to standard for the price per night and as relaxing as we hoped it to be. I’m not one to complain, and we did also have a lovely room once we were checked in and breakfast/dinner was also very nice. The staff were also very lovely, I just wouldn’t choose to stay again for a...
Read moreHad to give one star to start but not worth even that. Have been many times over the years living only a couple of miles away. We went with a local group for our annual lunch but if they go again which I doubt we will not be with them nor will most of our friends. Bear in mind we had pre-booked so they knew exactly what to prepare. We seemed a little late in starting but that should not make much difference. It was either 2 or 3 course lunch with choice of 3 in each of starter, main and desert so no great pressure there. Wifes starter arrived along with a couple of others on our table but mine did not. Not to worry 2 others were waiting too. Turns out I was the only one waiting the other 2 were skipping starters. Luckily I said for the others not to wait. They had finished when mine arrived. Main course, my pie hard pastry and covered in a splodge of dried mush peas accompanied by what seemed like yesterday's chips covered in gravy. Who servs them like that? If you want serve them with a little jug of gravy. It was not hit when it arrived having not been heated properly. The others said not to wait. I had finished mine when most of the others were served, 2 were even longer, as apparently there was some problems cooking the salmon. Deserts were served but the wife and I had chosen to miss that one. Two of our table chose the mess. Looked nice but no meringue, apparently although they knew how many were ordered the had run out. My 2 friends were offered a packet biscuit instead. They could not eat what the described to me as a glass of cream with a spoon of tinned raspberry jam mixed in. I think just about everyone skipped coffee. Never again. P.S. didn't hear that ask anyone if everything was alright as usually would...
Read moreWe had the most amazing wedding day at The Gamekeepers! Even before we became engaged, we knew it was the one. Not only because it was where my parents held their wedding reception over 30 years ago but because it’s beautiful and ticked all of our boxes. Angela, was amazing from the start. Her years of experience show in her relaxed and welcoming manner, it is just what a clueless bride needs. She had all the answers to my millions of questions and made me feel that each one was important. As we had family and friends travelling from all over, it was important to us to spend time with them. With Angela’s help, we held dinner for all of our gets in the conservatory the night before. The food was incredible, the staff welcoming and our guests loved the extra time spent celebrating together. It was also amazing to be able to have all of our guests staying at the venue. The day, we would do over and over if we could. We owe Agnela, Harriet and Chris so much love for the perfect day we had. From arranging all of our decorations and flowers to being everywhere you needed them at all times. In the very nervous moments before walking down the aisle, Harriet and Chris were so calming and reassuring. They are experts at what they do. The day ran so smoothly and we know this is because the team do so much more than what we see. There is nothing more we could have asked from them. When chatting to our guests the next morning over breakfast, everyone commented on the how intimate and personalised our wedding was. With 100 guests including babies and toddlers, the Gamekeepers team really worked their magic to help us achieve the intimate wedding we craved. We feel so lucky to have been able to have this perfect day as the start of our...
