Came here yesterday for my Birthday lunch, only to leave quite disappointed by the experience. Firstly, my starter was forgotten. The waitress never returned to check if everything was OK, so I had to go and find someone to locate my food. A waitress went and found my starter and said it has been left under a heat lamp, however, it was by now, at best, lukewarm. It was billed as ‘Roasted Garlic Bulb, Homemade Sourdough’. What I eventually received by the time my dining companions had finished their starters was a room temperature previously roasted bulb of garlic with wholemeal bread? On to the main, I ordered Bouillabaisse (fish soup/stew) which was left with no spoon to eat it with. Again I had to go and find staff to get the appropriate cutlery, as yet again no server returned to check on us, which to be honest is just plain irritating that I had to get up and find assistance for the second time. The service was not just poor for us but we noticed the table next to us received similar indifferent experience. Food was delivered with one word barked, ‘Hake’, then thrown at whoever. The customers just looked bewildered, they then asked if they could have some salt & pepper, to which, they were met with an eye roll and ‘I’ll get someone to bring you some’ - why couldn’t the waitress get it herself? Why isn’t salt & pepper on the table anyhow? Huge credit must be given to the kitchen staff / chefs - the food we ate was all very delicious (aside from my starter). I’m still thinking about just how good it was it today, sadly though the front of house severely lets it down. Would I return? Yes, probably, in the hope that the service has...
Read moreI have been to the Garlic farm on three occasions. First time, I had the ploughman's. It was great! The second time, I ordered the ploughman's again, but this time, there was not much cheese and the bread was a bit dry. I was a little disappointed. Due to lock down, I hadn't been back until last week ( I think it was Tuesday 11th May ) and this time, I decided to try the Highland Beef sausage roll with rocket horseradish and mustard. When it turned up, I was surprised to receive half a dry, lukewarm sausage roll with a lick of some sort of pale creamy sauce/dressing, no rocket, not even a sprig, and no horseradish. I commented to my wife that had I been blindfold, I would not have had a clue what I was eating. It tasted of nothing at all so, I left half on my plate. It was £8:00, not cheap in my opinion for a sausage roll, Highland Beef or otherwise. To be fair, when I informed the waitress of my disappointment, she immediately and without hesitation offered to knock it off the bill and alert the chef, which was decent. Summing up : I moved to the Island a little over a year ago. I am not a tourist, although that should make no difference, and having been let down on two out of three occasions, I don't feel I can confidently take friends and guests to this restaurant for fear of further let down in the future. Pity really. The staff, the setting and the grounds are really lovely. Lets hope it picks up...
