The Globe Inn — Restaurant in England

Really sorry to have to say that our visit to The Globe Inn was not at all comfortable...

Admittedly, our family party of eight were a little late, but we had booked for an early session in the hope that our numbers wouldn't be a problem and we were still there before 6.30pm. We were made aware immediately that we had caused a problem, by arriving later than booked, and for wanting to sit outside instead of inside.

Having decided to make the best of our rather lukewarm reception, we set about ordering immediately so that we could try to make up for some of the lost time, and not cause the kitchen any further headaches.

After looking at the menu, which said we should ask about the Inn’s vegan and gluten free options, two of our party with these particular dietary requirements went inside to make the enquiry. They were told that the Inn ‘does not appreciate vegans’, at which point we really felt that we needed to leave…

This is the first negative review that I have posted on Google, and I do so now reluctantly, especially as we had been recommended this Inn by family who live locally.

However, I’m afraid that our family party were not made to feel at all welcome, and those of us with particular dietary requirements even less so. I was invited by a friend to join him at this pub last night, the car park was almost full, that indicated it was a good place to eat, even though he had booked a table, it was not available when we got there, we were told there was a table available after a little wait, we noticed that no food had been served to the other four tables in the room, and people seemed to be getting a little concerned when there food would arrive, we asked for the menu, and was told, they had no menus, but a very sweet lady came to read what was on offer, very limited it was. but we went for garlic mushrooms to start off with, three quarters of an hour later they arrived, our main course was ham egg and chip, very easy to prepare, but the eggs was over cooked, the chip was so burnt neither of us could eat them, the ham was ok, but the whole meal was very badly presented. we were told the owner was not there, but gone to an opera with his girl friend, the staff was so helpful, but to expect people to pay for that kind of food just not on, we will never go there again and be insulted with that...

We visited The Globe yesterday to meet up with some old friends. We received a warm welcome. Drinks were delivered to our table and all of our questions regarding the menu were answered with a smile! As we had arrived just before opening time the landlady apologised that our order would take a little longer than normal to be served, but this wasn't a problem. The Globe is off the beaten track, but well worth visiting if you are in the area, especially if you are looking for a dog...
