I'll always be honest in reviews. Having realistic expectations about the wait we might have on a Sunday, my wife, daughter and I went to The Globe for a meal. Firstly we found somewhere to sit easy enough. Perusing the Sunday Roast menu I noted the prices were rather high. On the flip side of the menu, I spotted the option of the value menu. Upon asking a staff member about it, he said that was not available. I asked for the children's menu which he provided with some crayons. We ordered the food we wanted (Southern Fried Chicken burger for me, kids Fish and Chips for the wife and a Cheese and Tomato Pizza for my 11 year old daughter). After a 45 minute wait, the food arrived. During the wait we sarcastically speculated that the pizza would be made afresh from a freshly prepared bread base, layered with tomato puree and cheese and stone baked in the outside brick oven. If we had expected this, how sorely disappointed we would have been. The children's cheese and tomato pizza is a small microwave pizza akin to the 'popular' brand of microwave pizza you can get in a supermarket, I'd be generous if I said it was 4 inches diameter. It had a small side of not advertised 'salad' consisting of different leaves. My wife had no complaints about the children's fish and chips other than the rosemary salted chips tasted a bit funny and the fish having been deep fried to within an inch of its existence. Now we get to my burger. Real chicken breast which may have been considered for placing next to chicken breasts that were actually adorned with a spicy coating but somehow missed out on that treatment and only exhibiting the minutest of spice, toasted buns, good amount of salad with bland homemade coleslaw and cold fries. Admittedly, when I pointed out the cutesy bucket of fries was cold, they were promptly replaced and apologised for. For nearly £10, I would have expected a much better burger and accompaniments. On the plus side, staff were very polite and accommodating, the ambience pleasant and the surroundings and placement of the pub next to the Grand Union Canal are lovely, just the cost and quality of the food let it down.

Nice little pub with a small hidden car park with access along the tow path from the little bridge. Really busy when we visited and the manageress said there might be a slight delay for service before seating us which was great honesty and tbh the wait wasn't really bad for a couple of pints . Some places just seat you and you find out that there's a massive delay for your drinks the hard way. The staff were really courteous and efficient especially one poor lad serving the table behind us where one woman of the group of three complained about everything from the quantity of Halloumi fries her daughter received, the lack of additional condiments, to no additional cutlery etc etc. If I had been serving her I think I'd have just chucked her in to the canal by her dodgy hair extensions. Well done lad for your patience. Only slight gripe was that the gents toilets weren't working and I had to use the disabled one with it's unique string flush. Apart from that it's a great place with reasonable prices for the area. Definitely worth a look in the sunshine.

Aug’24 New owners from previous review and now a 4 star versus 3 star review. Staff super friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere inside and canal side great. The food we had was delicious and well presented but vegan and vegan gluten free options very limited. Also, the value for money for a side of fries or onion rings is not good eg. £3+ for 6 onion rings. 2022 Idyllic location by the canal with loads of seating albeit sunny or under the trees. Indoors is also lovely. So gets really busy. Bar staff friendly. However, food (at least for the vegan options) is disappointing and not great value for money. As per pic, the koftas I am sure were just microwaved and were not nice with unwashed salad from a bag no doubt. Great place for drinks and snacks however.

We booked a table using the online booking service. After arriving about 20 minutes early restaurant was about 50% full. So we decided to see if our table was available. We got seated at a table with no cutlery and were told that the waitress would be back in a few minutes to take our drinks orders. They weren't. After waiting ~20 mins for a drink we decided to go up and order some at the bar. This was despite having three members of staff chatting at the bar. Other patrons were having to go up to order drinks as well. After finishing our drinks we then had to walk up to the staff members to ask them to take our food order. In all fairness after taking the food order, the food turned up in relatively short order. Unfortunately they were out of fajitas so I went for the chicken burger, it wasn't mentioned in the menu so I asked if the burger came with chips I was told they came with skinny fries. my wife went for the Rump steak with chips the waitress asked if she wanted garden or mushy peas. Turned out to be a pointless question. The staff members were starting to wake up when bringing out the starter and managed to find the correct table. Although we still had to remind them that we would like to have some cutlery to eat with. We got a knife and fork but not a napkin. When the main came out, the peas my wife asked for weren't there. So I don't know why they even bothered to ask. My skinny fries were the skinniest I have ever come across and contained zero calories, because they were not there either. The rump steak was roughly 50% inedible. The chicken burger was a distinct disappointment. Slightly over cooked, dry, with a bit of lettuce underneath it. The Colonel would have been disappointed. We finished our meals faster than expected and the waiter can to take our plates. Didn't ask if we enjoyed our meal or if we wanted coffees or any desserts. We decided to pay up and go have a drink in the bar. Of course we had to walk up to the bar to pay. I must admit I was tempted to walk past the bar and out through the door. But managed to resist the urge. The bar person gave us the bill and attempted to charge us for the desserts we weren't offered. Which didn't go down well. Suffice to say I wouldn't...

I don't normally like writing comments that aren't entirely positive, but am amending to add a full written review to the rating, at the request of business to explain the three stars.

Firstly, lovely location and good drink selection!

We came on a Sunday, which didn't appear particularly busy, however I know that with reservations and kitchen turnaround that you may well have been at capacity and accept that. I also completely understand (having worked at busy pubs myself), that walk-in s on a Sunday can be a lot, and there was no initial expectation from our group of there being any food available.

Unfortunately we received a lot of mixed messages whilst there, and wasted a lot of time in the hope of the semi-promised chance of ordering food, which has resulted in the middle of the road review.

Initially we were told by bar staff it would be fine to take some food menus outside, and then having a different member of our table being told 5 minutes later they weren't doing food.

A different member of the table was told that we could order sides. He and my partner went in to order chips and were told sides weren't available (we always order in person as I am celiac).

At the same time our friend ordered chips and drinks on the app, and his food did come out (although a drink was missing and had to be chased).

When we considered ordering the chips that could clearly be done on the app ourselves (because they were clearly marked as gluten free on the NGCI menu on the website), we noticed that the allergen information was different and they are not included on the NGCI menu on the app, so refrained from ordering.

I could see that the food looked great, and the staff were friendly and polite, and I'm sure on another occasion it could have been a great experience. What wasn't great was a lot of confusion around whether or not it was available, and a lack of consistency between different staff members and the...
