I recently visited The Golden Cross, and I canât stop raving about it! This charming English country pub is a hidden gem that offers a delightful dining experience. The food is simply outstanding. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavour, showcasing the best of local ingredients.
The portions are impressively generousâseriously, you wonât leave hungry! I had the Bangers and Mash, and it was packed with tender meat with a rich, authentic sauce. My partner enjoyed the hearty fish and chips, which came with a mountain of crispy chips and fresh peas.
What truly made our visit special was the service. Liv and Lucy were absolutely fantastic! They were warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Their recommendations were spot on, and their friendly banter added to the welcoming atmosphere.
If you're in the area, do yourself a favour and stop by The Golden Cross. Youâll be treated to delicious food, generous portions, and exceptional service. I canât...
Read moreThis certainly isn't a gastropub of any kind, yet it offers a bit more than a pub that happens to do food. The result is a confusing experience.
We pre-booked a table for Sunday lunch, when we arrived we were first ignored and then greeted with "where did I put the diary?". We were then just gestured towards a table in the corner, which clearly wasn't reserved.
We had one menu between 4 of us, and were ignored for quite a while. We had to ask how we order drinks, to be told they would take the order and we could collect the drinks from the bar. Is this table service or not?
The only thing stopping me from giving 1 star is that the food was fairly decent - good portions, veg cooked well and was pretty cheap.
I wouldn't visit again or recommend it, and I'd advise that they either offer a proper dining experience with table service or just be like a spoons so you order it all at the bar, pay upfront and get a...
Read moreThis pub used to be fantastic. Food was always fab. It was hard to get a table especially on a weekend as it was so busy. We have eaten once here since the so calked refurb and the food was not at all great ir how it used to be. We went in Sunday lunchtime for a just a drink and there was one family eating! Place was bare and baron and looked empty. We sat outside in the very tired looking unkept garden. The chef/manager was just wondering around with a fag hanging out of his mouth wiping sweat off himself and didnât apoear at all engaging.this place was shut down for a v long time for a so called refurb but it looks worse now than before and just unkept and dead. Very very sad to see a once busy and popular...
