Still reeling after what can only be described as an astonishing evening at the Golden Pheasant; for all the wrong reasons! We arrived at 5.30 on Saturday evening. Our order was taken at about 6pm. An hour and a quarter later, we were still waiting for our food. Another table seemingly had the same problem and were told that they’d had issues in the kitchen. We felt we should have been made aware that there was a wait on food, particularly given that we had 3 children with us. Our food eventually arrived at 7.15. My husband’s pie came out first. The rest of us were sat there for another 10 minutes waiting. All of our food was lukewarm. There was no cheese on my son’s cheeseburger so we sent it back. It took around another 15 minutes for it to be returned. When we cut into the burger, it was raw. This is not how a child’s burger should be served. My sister in law had a butter milk chicken steak that was so overcooked she could barely get her fork through it. We’d also asked for condiments when the meals eventually came out. I was handed a bottle of vinegar which can only be describe as vintage, with bits floating at the bottom. We eventually got them when we’d pretty much finished eating. The restaurant continued to fill up despite the clear lack of capacity to get any food out on time and cooked properly. The whole situation was absolutely calamitous. At about 7.45 the waitress (who we felt so sorry for, being left alone to deal with a roomful of disgruntled diners) came in to announce that the kitchen was now closed!!!!! The chef had walked out after an altercation with the waiting and bar staff. There is so much more I could add but given that the manager took half off our bill, I will refrain from doing so. The whole experience was embarrassing. I am perplexed to see the managers responses to various poor reviews saying that improvements have been made, when the quite obviously have not!!! He and his wife actually turned up as we were leaving. Neither of them approached us to apologise, we were simply ignored. Such a shame as we have been coming here for years but we will not be returning.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Golden Pheasant in Etton. A group of 8 of us, we pre-ordered off the festive menu. The menu was so reasonably priced for such high quality, professional food - it is worth more! The food was all presented beautifully, and was extremely tasty. You can tell this chef is highly trained! The entire table said how tasty the food was, and we all enjoyed sharing the vegetables/ accompaniments- it felt like a family Christmas dinner! The service was friendly, thank you so much to our two lovely waitresses Alison and Ashleigh, and the General Manager Suzanne. We loved our festive table with decoration and crackers! Excited to see posters for future special menus and events in the pub too - looking forward to New Year’s Eve and the Tasting Menu evening with Big Bird Catering! Having been aware of the food and service previous years not being so good, it was exciting to see such a good quality food offering, varied menus, and such friendly service. A superb local establishment for all of the outskirts-of-Peterborough villages. Thanks Golden Pheasant Team!

Nice clean country pub. I had Halibut mustard grain fondue, crab, which was very nice, my son had the beef burger with added bacon and fries, to which he said was delicious, it certainly looked very good, with a generous portion of fries, my wife and mother in law both opted for the sausage and mash, this was served in a bowl, which was full to the top, good helping of mashed potato and ample gravy, the sausages, to which they got three each were a really good size, not jumbo’s but not standard size, they both enjoyed this dish very much, for dessert,, three of us had the apple and pear crumble which again was delicious and my wife had the chocolate Affogato which was equally as good. Service was outstanding, although it was very quiet on our visit (Thursday lunchtime) the waitress was very good checking everything was ok and very quick In getting refreshments to the table. The pub itself was very clean, no sticky tables etc to which you sometimes get in other places. I would definitely recommend this place, and will definitely be returning at some point.

Before wanting to write this review, I have contacted the pub via their personal review page on their website but I’ve had no reply. My cousin booked a table as a treat for my birthday, she had informed the pub that we will be needing wheelchair access due to myself being disabled, my cousin was told that this is perfectly ok. Upon arrival the ramp going into the main entrance had a rather large threshold which was a little struggle to get over in my wheelchair. When we were taken to our table it was a tight fit getting into the dining room and as soon as we entered there was a table directly in front which caused a slight issue for a wheelchair. The waiter walked over to our table, turned and looked at me and said “here’s your table” …. This table was towards the other side of the room where I had to pass a couple quietly eating their dinner, thankfully the lady eating was polite and got up to move so I could actually have the room to get past. The issues didn’t stop there I’m afraid, where we were sat there was another table behind of course which just made it so there wasn’t actually enough room for me to sit at the table properly, I was sat at an angle and to be honest a little uncomfortable. The same situation when leaving, I apologised to everyone that I had to interrupt while they ate their dinner but if they hadn’t have stood up to move i wouldn’t of been able to pass. This made me rather embarrassed and I felt bad as people come out to eat as a treat, for me it just made it embarrassing. So just to clear this review up the venue is a rather tight fit for wheelchair users so just keep that in mind, other that that the food was very good. Rather a long wait for the puddings but a large family had arrived and it got a little busy...
