Very good and great value for money. We went for the set menu âHobson's Choiceâ, which is currently served on Tuesday evenings.
This consisted of three well-balanced dishes, of good portions size packed with flavour that had been expertly crafted. Their simplicity belied the skill needed to produce such food.
It was a pleasant surprise to be served food of such high quality. Few eating establishments in the area could meet this standard let alone surpass it.
Overall our visit was excellent.
First a couple of very minor points that are offered as positive feedback. It might be better to have the staff [including the owners] park in the far carpark to leave room for paying guests nearer to the pub. Or make it known people can park in front of the staff vehicles.
Secondly, the background music would have benefited from being a bit more in the background for us.
Now all the positives and there are many.
On walking through the door we were immediately acknowledged by, what we came to assume was the manager. This, to us, was first-class service. He took control and made us feel welcome and not left dangling wondering where to go. He projects the persona of an owner-operator but later makes it clear he was employed there. He was engaging and witty but I suspect his highly developed and to me sophisticated sense of humour might not go down well with some people but those people would have no sense of humour. For us, he is a reason to return to the pub. The problem the owners of this pub will have is when the manager is not working. We know from experience that recruiting and retaining staff like him is very difficult.
The pub has undergone a transformation since our last visit many years ago with the new owners changing the direction of the pub and carrying out a tasteful and sympathetic refurbishment. While it has some contemporary features there is still the easy comfort of a traditional country inn. We particularly like the colours and fabric choices and the imaginative use of wood. Another interesting feature was the use of industrial materials to create wine cages, which double as extra storage and a decorative feature. This, along with the quality of the food offer makes it one of the best places to eat in the wider area.
It was also good to see there were locals in there having an early-doors drink, which for us added to the pub's character.
We would highly recommend a visit...
Read moreVisited my daughter today and visited this restaurant. Table wasnât set up - admitted we were 20 mins early but then knives and forks were put down to help yourself as were the cutlery for dessert. The food was lukewarm at best and we were given 2 tea plates with our shared platter. My daughter asked for extra swede as we probably had 1 teaspoon each to be told they had run out. Dessert was served (tiny portion of Eton mess) without the table being cleared. One of our party complained at the bar, and the manager said they only had 2 servers on and had been busy (didnât look over busy to me, 3 tables at any given time). She was rude and told us just to go. We didnât, we paid our bill before we left. Sub par food and rude staff. Avoid...
Read moreMy third meal at the Green Tree Inn and it just canât fail to impress. I had the early bird menu which was not just great value for money but delivered high quality chef standard food. Everything was prepared in house and was absolutely delicious. Itâs the little things like fresh mushy peas that Iâd never tasted like this that makes it so special. The bar area offered a cheery open fire and a cozy atmosphere and the beer garden some panoramic views when itâs warmer. Itâs always a warm welcome and was nice to be remembered from my...
