Visited on Monday 1st Sept. I ordered the "pan fried sea-bass fillets with sautéed potatoes" from the lunch menu. The skin on the fish was just slimy fish skin - it hadn't been pan fried, and the potatoes were just boiled potatoes, with slightly greasy skins from the uninspiring gazpacho dressing (no idea what exactly was in it) - the only thing they could have been sauteed in was water. I ate the fish which was OK, but definitely missed the crisp pan-fried skin it should have had - I ate less then half the potatoes because there were too many - I wanted half the volume, but properly cooked. I was in a party of 6, and a waitress did come and ask one of our party how the food was - they said it was fine; I should have said something then but didn't want to make a fuss. At the end, of the meal I did tell another waitress that I had left over half the potatoes because they were not sautéed - she asked if the could get something else, but it was too late. I did think that someone from the kitchen or management might have come and had a quiet word at that point, but they didn't. The meal was finished off with a rather bland creme brulée - I've had worse, but I've also had a lot better. Before leaving this review, I took the trouble to email the pub and explain to them that I was not happy with the meal. I expected some sort of apology or explanation, and perhaps a small inducemtn (a drink on the house maybe) were I to return. However, i have not had the courtesy of a reply of any sort. Unsurprisingly I will not be returning to the Greyhound, and I will think very carefully before visiting any other Lees pubs (as they all seem to have the same menu). Very poor food, and customer service from...
Read moreWe booked for 7.30 on a Saturday night and arrived shortly before our reservation time. We were welcomed by a friendly lady who saw us to our table, and took our drinks order. The restaurant was extremely quiet for a Saturday night with only one other party of three eating. After studying the menu for ten minutes I was really looking forward to the “legendary cheese and onion pie” 😋 We were then approached by a different member of staff, who informed us there was no cheese and onion or steak pie left. Wow - only 7.30 on a Saturday night with hardly any diners and they have run out of pies! I settled for fish and chips which wasn’t great. Batter soggy, not crispy and cold at the thin end and mushy peas were lukewarm. Obviously had been sat as the fish had sweated causing the batter to go soggy. My wife had the lamb shank which she described as “okay but nothing special”. A pub or restaurant should not be running out of core menu stock at 7.30 on a Saturday night, especially when virtually empty. If they are popular dishes, make sure you have plenty of stock to be able to meet demand during service, and bring food out promptly or get your timings right so dishes don’t sweat and cool unnecessarily. This is unprofessional and is easily avoidable. I hope the greyhound take my comments on board as I am being honest and do know what I am talking about. It is a lovely venue and the staff are friendly and polite, hence the three stars. Will try again in a month or so, so fingers...
Read moreWent for Fathers Day. Staff friendly and helpful but the food was pretty sub-standard to say the least. The two Sizzling Chicken Tikka Masala's was like nothing i'd seen or tried to eat before, very little chicken (with skin left on yuk!), no creamy masala sauce, just a dry paste with huge amounts of thick sliced courgette (zuccini) which is not in any recipe for Tikka Masla i've used. The person who had the burger commented it was tastless and dry, the lamb was ok but the vegetables were weird in as much as my wife couldn't cut them yet they looked 'soggy'. I've eaten in JWL pubs before and had much better experiences.
This may well be a one-off problem as the place was busy but you only get one chance to make a good first impression and this was not a good first impression. We shan't be making a return visit. We eat out a lot with friends in pubs and restaurants and and have had the same ingredients and similar menu offerings from other establishments which all have been of a higher standard, cooked properly, tasty and cheaper.
Shame as the pub is in a nice place and the...
